5KW WOULD be enough power for 990 IF:
* There were an intact and functioning ground system.
* There were an intact and functioning transmitter.
* They were using a less complicated directional pattern requiring fewer towers...say 3 or 4.
* They had a tower site in or near Providence (dump Greenville as COL).

Wasn't that a little harsh about Steve Bianchi? After all, he appears to be one of the nice guys in the business. Then again...maybe that could be a problem. From my observations, it's the nice guys that tend to get trampled upon...

Also...IF...as you contend...this latest WALE "revival" is swirling round the bowl and headed for the sewer...THEN I have only one thing left to say:

LET THE POTSHOTS BEGIN ! ! !
 
I wish I had recorded this latest incarnation of WALE whilst I still had the chance. It was quirky but enjoyable. The only thing I can see on that plant which could work would be brokered religion. That is, with the current setup. If a big company were to come in & fix it up, it could be viable but, are there any big companies (or ones with deep pockets) left?
 
Has Steve Bianchi ever actually worked in a prominent position at any Providence station? I know he's been around years and years but last heard before this in Newport and he was also doing traffic. I've heard him and my opinion about labeling someone a dinosuar is this: Put someone on a rimshot station with no hope of gaining an audience and the people there who are hanging onto their radio careers are dinosaurs. Put those same people on a Providence station that is actually a player in the market and suddenly they're not dinosaurs anymore. It's the image and reputation of the station that the person carries with him. What kind of a job he can do isn't always dictated by what he's capable of or even his reputation. It comes with the station itself. Look at Big John. He's no dinosaur but other than the weekend shift at Cat Country he never really recovered careerwise since being cut at B101. Personally I don't think he should associate himself with WALE as it reflects on him and suddenly he runs the risk of being labeled a dinosaur too. Put him on Cat Country and suddenly he's a player again. It's the station! Not always the person.
 
So what are you saying. Is the station gone already? Are all those hot babes on the website now out of a job? That would be sad. .
 
Well I did not mean to offend anyone by calling Bianchi a Dinosaur and I tend to agree with Moonstruck that the flavor of the station can make your reputation. We were surprised to hear Midday Madness today but it was not live...It was a "Best of" which one of our girls said played last week????
As for the hot babes.....I have not heard any of them report in a long long time..... Like I said, Goodnight WALE!
 
We listened yesterday and heard yet another replay of "Best of Midday Madness with the JoJo guy but today there was NOONE. Can WALE stay in good standing with the FCC without bodies in the building? I heard through the secretarial hot line that noone is there because checks went a bouncing! Oh well. you guys called it in the first week! ;D

Since I'm not a prophet or crystal ball gazer, I can only say that what happens at that dump from here is anybody's guess.

Well now they're advertising the WALE Love Boat Cruise this Saturday leaving from Allens Avenue at $50.00 a person. I'd make sure it's round trip before getting on that boat.

It could be like the boat on Gilligan's Island. 7 people on it. The captain, the shipmate and the only 5 people who would actually buy a ticket. They go for a 3 hour cruise only to never be heard from again. Yep.. sounds about right.
 
Check out the blogspot on the WALE website. Jojo Gator is developing a script for a movie called AM about a guy who inherits a station riddled with financial problems and with a ragtag crew. He wants Will Ferrell on board. Didn't he do Land Of The Lost? Oh wait.

I think the "Titanic" theme is best expressed at the transmitter site. After all...a couple of the towers there look like they could have had a run-in with an iceberg...LOL.

Well...at least some of us here care enough about WALE to make fun of it. Notice how nobody here even bothers to lampoon the other half of Peter Arpin's "radio empire" here...1320 WARL. THAT place is soooo far down the rat hole, that it even escapes this board's "ridicule radar"...LOL.

I agree with you...the late Steve White would have had great fun with all of this!

Now...if you'll excuse me...I'm off to the kitchen for my bowl of cream, to play with my ball of yarn, and maybe later on...visit my litter box.

Not me...I guess he is trying to recoup some of the money he owes everyone....I hear the checks are bouncing....It also sounds like he lost ABC6 news and is back to phantom radio...Is the FCC listening?

None of this seems to make any sense whatsoever. From all outward appearances, it looks like his two radio properties are being run into the ground!

If there's some brilliant 'grand scheme' in place...I just don't see it...LOL.

I don't get it either man. He sold his Boston Properties - back in the earlier part of this decade WRCA 1330 to Beasley and WLYN 1360 to MultiCultural. And then in 04 he sold his suburban Hartford Station WXCT 990 to Davidson Media Group. And the moving company that his brother (?) or father (?) owns Paul Arpin Vanlines is doing well. I see one of their trucks every couple weeks.
