WALE 990

I have to keep it hush hush for right now, but I have it on good authority that their sister station WARL is getting a new PM Drive Talk show in October.

Don't tell me!......Let me guess!!

The New-Age folks at 1320 (assuming there's still some left)....will be Channeling the Ghost of Steve White....and the Ghost will be doing the afternoon-drive talk show!!....LOL.

In any event....those Catholic religious programs they've had on 1320 in afternoon drive have been nothing short of a hazard to the motoring public. Just try listening for a couple of minutes, and before you know it.....you're starting to nod off it the middle of rush-hour traffic!!!....LOL.

LOL. check your Private Message Section.

This station can run old Naragansett Beer commercials on a continuous loop 24/7/365 on that station and nobody would notice.

Hi, neighbor! Have a 'Gansett!

They can also run that Ernie Anastos chicken blooper...same thing.

It is a sad, sad situation over there at wale. Drove by last week and there wasn't even a car in the lot so I guess the ipod shuffle idea was spot on. You guys had this figured out from the getgo. According an anonymous source at a nearby oriental restaurant, the owner owes the "used to be" staff a lot of money and they all walked. Checks went bouncing...... Too bad, it was getting interesting. Maybe when JoJO does his movie it will all make sense. I think he should get Tim Burton instead of the Farrelly Bros. to make this epic.

I bet the Asian restaurant person was spot on. The staff probably ordered from them where there was staff. and the staff probably bitched to a non connected party...
WALE will always be like this until someone buys it who has the money to fix it properly.

Disaster movie is more like it! Is Irwin Allen still alive??....LOL

As for checks bouncing?...Well...of course!!....all the money went to the Electric Company....(assuming the Electric Company actually DID get paid)...LOL...LOL....LOL

Curiosity compelled me to visit the website. Aside from some hype about a would-be movie which would star Vinnie Pazienza....if ever made....not much has changed.

All the "used to be" staff, and thier time slots are still listed, as well as the addition of THIS little nugget......

WALE is currently in the midst of experimental programming changes and the time slots listed
may not accurate. Tune in and see what's on !

Oh...Brother!......

In two years some troll will start posting about the triumphant return of WALE again. By that time there'll be so many unemployed people in this market that they'll all be willing to buy brokered time just to get on the air there.

WHY do those who were once on air and who learned the horrid truths about radio still want to be on air enough to pay to do a show on a station which is continuing in the same old patterns? Humans never cease to amaze me.

To some people it is an ego trip to be able to say they have a job working on the radio. But these days nobody seems impressed. It has become a worthless career unless you are one of the chosen few. I think most people keep at it simply because it's all they know how to do. I've heard plenty of people in show business say that they are glad their career worked out well for them because they have no clue how to do anything else.

I think this is very common in professional sports too. Look at how many ball players have had problems going on with thier lives once the cheering in the stands stopped for them.

In any event...."MissAM" summed up the whole 990 mess perfectly in Reply #146:

"WALE will always be like this until someone buys it who has the money to fix it up properly".

AMEN ! ! !......and...amen.

The problem is that whoever has the money to properly fix up WALE most likely has better business sense than to buy it in the first place. How many years would it take for them to see a profit? Talk about a bad investment!

Sky:

You're exactly right...IF you're an owner like CC, Citadel, or Hall. BUT...to an owner for whom the up-front costs of the major overhaul and on-going expenses would be secondary to a bigger goal or a bigger message....like a non-comm or a religious group....THEN all the expenses become justified.

The way I see it....there are only two ways that place can be run. First, the way I just mentioned above....

OR....Second...by Low-rent owners (like the ones they have now)... who will put NOTHING into the place, and run it as a de-facto 5000 watt (1000 watt?) daytimer, and hope to squeeze every last penny they can out of it until those two towers finally do that suicide run, or some other major technical failure renders the place dark......for good.

WALE seems to be the one station that could use automation the most. That way they don't have to worry about paying staff money that they can't afford. Unfortunately I don't think they can even afford automation equipment. No idea how much that costs though, so maybe I'm wrong.

Someone should shoot the thing. Guys, its a broken down 50KW station whoes pattern serves the whales in the middle of the atlantic. yea I would want to invest in that....not.

They should just open the door like a retail store and let anyone walk in off the street who wants to play Radio. Charge them $50 an hour to get on the air and talk about whatever they want. Have some intern run the board for free. There you go. At least it would make for some interesting programming until the day the tower falls over.
