Walton and Johnson

I lived in Houston for awhile. Walton and Johnson will get a bump in the ratings and slowly slide into oblivion as they alway's do. Same old bits over and over and over. Listening to them is like listening to mold grow. Come on Cumulus you can do better than that!!! I'm sure they're getting them cheap!!!

But wait...... that's what happens with the music selection (Same old bits over and over and over. Listening to them is like listening to mold grow. ) So in a way it's all congruent.A total wasted station, in music repetition and in their "morning show".....RIP

Never heard these guys before so I wanted to have a fair idea of their talent and abilities. So, I've been listening a good portion of the morning because I wanted to give them a chance. IT'S WORSE THAN I EVER DREAMED IT COULD BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THIS SHOW COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY BLOWS. HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS EVER, EVER GET JOBS?THIS TRASH IS ON MULTIPLE STATIONS? HOLY CHRIST THESE PINHEADS MUST REALLY AND TRULY WORK FOR FREE.My God people. I knew Cumulus coming to town would spell doom for some local talent, but I never believed it could suck quite this much.Note to Cumulus management** A show that comes cheap isn't worth it, IF NOBODY LISTENS!!!

W&J may be the biggest spares I have ever heard. Maybe funny back in the day, but the show still sounds like something from the 80's.

And those of us with long memories will remember that Walton and Johnson held down mornings at the classic rock incarnation of KIXK in the mid-80's. I remember them as being fairly entertaining back then. I listened for a few moments this morning and promptly went back to KRLD.

I also listened for about 30 minutes. All I can say is wow...

Think you love them now, wait til they start whining ad nauseum about their crappy facilities and rimshot signal in Houston. Truly compelling radio.

A real "bonified" bonehead decision..next up Whoopi;)

sorry Dallas...these guys put a whole bunch of nails in the coffin at KLOL in Houston. and we got them back when Cumulus came to town last Spring.maybe W&J will finally kill the Bone. ;D

Since i'm not in commercial radio i have ask my radio friends why do companies hire the same old tired failed talent. IE:Walton/JohnsonI was told most companies play it safe. Gone are the days of risk, unique on the edge talent. More importantly, the consultants rule the roost. Consultants have little lists of acceptable talent. Acceptable meaning acceptable to the small club of consultants who run 90% of the radio stations. Like the music it's the same old tired list year in/year out and of course the GM's running the big companies now are bean counters in their 30's and early 40's and very few of them come from programming. So they believe everything the consultants tell them including the 20 something pd's. For a PD to question a consultant is the cardinal sin. That's why most consultants hire 20something pds in small/med markets and 20/30 somethings in major markets. There ARE exceptions. FEW though. Once you get in da club, youz in da club fo ever.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but consultants are not the end all and be all they were in the 70s. A lot of consultants are now out of work, or scrambling for the stations they do have, since consolodation centralized a lot of the functions of a consultant. And they DO serve a purpose. They can be removed from the day to day at a station and hear what is actually going on with the product. (The old cant see the forest for the trees trick) And as for the thing about playing the same music...(heavy sigh)That's been going on since Gordon invented Top 40. That's the purpose: to play the most popular songs so folks can hear their favorites. Granted, there is a particular psychographic that will only consume new, untested product and drops same as soon as it becomes popular. THose are the folks who usually holler the loudest about the selection on the air.

Tell me, what station(s) do YOU consult Mr. Consultant?Besides, what does that have to do with what i wrote regarding the Short List of Talent Consultants peddal year after year after year? ;)

Marvin summed it up very well. That's why there is a "CON"in consultant.

Okay Marvin, riddle me this- You admit that you're not in commercial radio, but then you 'know' that consultants have lists of approved talent? How exactly would you know that? And can you give me any idea who is on this 'list"? Is it different for each format? And can you actually name any of these consultants who run 90% of teh radio stations? It might be nice to work for somebody with that much power...But I'm betting you don't actually have a clue what you're talking about, and can't tell me what stations in this market do and don't employe consultants...I bet that "Uppen" guy is right... My money is there's a lot less consultants (with a lot less influence) than in the old days...After all consider a monstrosity like Cheap CHannel... Don't they have "Format Experts" at the corporate level? Most of which are former succesful PD's? Sure sounds like they've created their own consultants, doesn't it? And as this has turned into more and more of a buisness, paying some consultant t fly into town and hold your hand (or cuss you out) is a thing of the past...Personally, The stations I've worked with in the past, consultants did just that, consult. But it was still the PD or GM's decisions to make...

Just repeating what several of my friends in radio have said.Chill out huh?

Thank you, little1. Marvin's "friends in radio" are most likely the folks who set up the card table at remotes. And by the way: I don't consult, but I've worked at two stations in DFW, and I've been in the biz over 35 years. Want another tidbit?? since this is a W&J thread...I worked with Steve Johnson "back in the day" before he hooked up with JW. (whoo-hoo) ::)

I tuned in to the Morning Show over at 93.3 today, and what I heard, well, I would compare it to this: You might expect "The Dukes of Hazard" or "Starsky & Hutch" (Really great and well-crafted Television shows).......But, what you really get, is the crass and inept adaptations in the form of the "Movie" versions of the said programs.....Plus, they were talking about "school" stuff.... Well.... SCHOOL'S OUT, in cae you didn't know..... When I was in HS, I NEVER listned to the Radio in the morning. To get ready for the school day, I listened to cassette tapes of current music that was out then ( Jehtro Tull, Grand Funk, ELP, Zeppelin, etc....)I would not and do not, know, and hopefully will never know what it's like to be part of the demographic that to start my day, must listen to "talk" radio, instead of some great rock music that hasn't already been rammed down out throats like "Top 40"......

Re: Johnsons Walnuts

Is one of them a transvestite ? Sure sounds like it ..A had more laughs at a funeral..You could clip the wires on the back of your tuner and heara better morning show than what Clulus is broadcasting."Crank it down and break the knob off""93.3 DeBONED"CaptinRon, Weatherford,Tx
