WAMO Deal Failing??

Snafu said:
Way more actually. If WAMO had those kind of sales numbers in any of the last five years we wouldn't be talking about the sale.

At present in this market B-94 draws enough main line advertisers. WAMO runs bail bond commericals.

B-94 billed 25% less than WAMO last year.

Good to hear from you David.... you don't usually check in unless the topic involves something en espanol....

I'm sure many are as surprised as I am to hear that about WAMO's billing. It then raises other questions about Sheridan's operation because the reason for the sale was clearly and publicly portrayed as financial distress.

And then again, maybe a full year's worth worth of 2008 billing isn't the whole story. It could be that after the "October Surprise" hit the economy, things fell off so badly that they couldn't recover.

My first radio job was at an urban, then called "r&b" just northwest in the Mistake on the Lake... WJMO, 1490. So I follow urbans to some extent as I really loved the format and the folks I worked with there.

That is a likely scenario. And being pretty much a stand-alone (the AMs really don't count) is tough today, although a number of very good urbans are stand alones or limited clusters. It may be the economy, or perhaps economic pressures elsewhere that made the owner divest. I don't think we know the whole story, although fear of the PPM may be a big part of it!!!

One of our people attended the PPM presentation, and she was quite impressed. They suggest that the system will be more accurate. For example, some people who used diaries would write down WQED-FM because they were ashamed to indicate the real station to which they were listening.

If it is more accurate, then why is it not MRC accredited except in Riverside, CA and Houston (where a separate and unique recruit method is being used and higher incentives are being paid)?

I remember WJMO from 1963-64. I lived in Pittsburgh and "vacationed" in Cleveland. The stations kinda matched up: KQV/WHK, KDKA/WKYC. and WAMO/WJayMO. You must be real old too.
