Wanna Buy a Station?

He worked there before I did when he was a student at Carnegie Tech. I did work with Rush Limbaugh though, but not at LOA

I spent a Saturday Morning With him At WIXZ, When He first came to Town.He Told me the Story of KGMO 1550 and his start in Radio, Showing me his 1st Class FCC License with his Real Name on it. Great Guy.

Phil, Limbaugh is one of the nicest guys that I met in the business. He cut ID's for my pirate AM when he worked at WIXZ 1360.

I'm reporting you to the Commission!!! Seriously, he is a very pleasant person. He weighed about 300 pounds when I worked with him. He told me that he was going to lose weight by fasting. And he did. He drank some OJ every day and lost quite a few pounds This was in our KQV days.

I Liked him he was friendly, Open and Honest. Loved to hang out After his Morning Show on WIXZ in Downtown Pittsburgh . If he saw you He Stopped and Said hello.

It did OK for a while as WCKG when Benns Communications bought it and it was co-located with Y97 in Braddock. Mike Payne from WAMO was the PD at the time. (Where are the studios now?)

4736 Penn Avenue (15224)

I see it is still for sale.
So you guys think even with the absence of Jazz on 90.5, if WLFP were to be resurrected with a Jazz format it would likely fail? It seems as though it WLFP has lacked a local sound.

Jazz on a graveyard AM signal? Right....

WLFP has lacked almost everything, including a good signal, nighttime service (okay, 4 watts), a decent set of
call letters, and any kind of ratings success since the WLOA days. The tower is leased and the office space is
rented, so you're essentially purchasing a piece of paper. That may be worth $50,000 or so, not the $225,000
(cash!) that they've been asking.

Remember a few years ago Inner City Broadcasting, one of the industry's biggest owners in the Urban format, bought 1550 and tried to make a go of it. I think it lasted less than a year, and while it's true that the original WAMO-FM was still on the air, they couldn't do anything on that signal.

What about AM Stereo? C-QUAM. I figure if it's done right, truly local & programmed different than any other station it would work, I mean come on Pittsburgh is #25 market.

The WLFP nighttime signal is limited by CBE-1550 in Windsor, Ontario.
Under international law, that limit continues even if that AM 1550 goes off, as it may do in September. Canadian Broadcasting Corp. is moving its programs to an FM but gets interference with adjacent Detroit FMs.
CBEF is Moving from[ 540 2500 day 5kw night] to 1550 10 k Fulltime. Meaning no Incress in Power.

That's interesting. Outside of what they may be doing in Quebec province, CBC seems to be keeping its Francophone outlets on AM. In Toronto CBC's French programs still are on AM 860. CBEF I believe also is a French-language outlet.

Thats Correct, CJBC 860 is Loud and Clear Here in western Pa. I'm Suprised WAOB 860 Millvile was Able to get Night Power [830 watts] and AM 860 Philly and West Va Could Not.

860 Philadelphia (then WTEL) had a CP for 500 watts nighttime at one point, but that was a while ago and they
never built it. I believe 860 Pittsburgh (Millvale) was granted a few waivers due to being minority-owned at the
time.

There were only pattern augmentations to make it fit the rules and get licensed. The night signal was always a possibility and required more towers as it goes south but there was not enough signal to cover Pittsburgh causing a city of license change. Going from Pittsburgh to Millvale is a big change on paper to some.

The great Myron Jones told me that WAMO-AM could move to 850 and go full-time. They would have to protect Cleveland and Johnstown.
