Wanted, WTUE airchecks from their top forty days.

Hi there folks. I'd love to get a hold of some airchecks of WTUE in Dayton during their top forty days, 1971 through 1975. They were just an awesome sounding station, and one of the few FM stations to broadcast in quad. Though Dayton was a much smaller radio market than Columbus where I lived at the time, I always thought that WTUE had a much better, bigger, more professional big city sound than either WCOL or WNCI in Columbus at the time. I would just love to get my hands on some Greg Mason, Al Morgan, Shaun McKay, Dave Michaels and Bawana Johnny airchecks from that time period. I do have one July 1973 aircheck of the station which I found on the reel top forty repository website but I would love to get some more airchecks of this truly AWESOME SOUNDING station. From February through May of 1974, I was attending a broadcasting school in nearby Ketterring, and I did record some of WTUE myself. Unfortunately though, all I had at the time was a portable radio and a mono Sony TC105 four-track mono reel-to-reel recorder, so my recordings were not made in stereo which is a real shame. Anyway, if anyone can help me, please either reply to this message or send along a private message. I just loved that WTUE top of the hour ID with that echoed "music power power power power" going from channel to channel, and apparently it was even more amazing in quad.

I'm glad that someone else appreciated the gem (pun intended) of a top 40 station that WTUE was. To say that I was bummed when it went away in '75 is an understatement. I took on the scoping of countless hours of WUBE AM recordings from 1968 and if someone does come through with reel to reel tapes of the Rock Of Dayton, I'd consider scoping them into air checks as my labor of love for this winter season. Forgot about the ID...but remember it well.

As former WTUE jock "Jason Roberts" I'm very dissapointed that I was not included in this tribute to what I sure thought at age 19 was a great radio station. I've got an aircheck at home that includes me (don't know where it came from) that I will be glad to share.. even thought it sounds like the OP doesn't want it. :(

I have a 45 that I believe has your jock jingle on it...Jason "Baby" Roberts. IIRC, you identified yourself as "WTUE's Brandest Newest Superjock". On the flip side is the WTUE Solid Rock Song. What I'd have given to have a gig like that at age 19.

I hope it isn't too off topic to ask if anyone has any surveys from September of 1972. There's an album cut from about that time that I've been wondering about for years because the lyrics were so unusual. The song included the line,
Takin' a bath cause I'm startin' to stink.
The very last time I heard it, they said it was by a different artist, a long group name that I hadn't heard before or since.

Hello samw54 - I have an aircheck of me (Jason "Baby" Roberts) on WTUE, that includes the top of the hour ID you mentioned. I'll post it on Soundcloud sometime today.

Please share a link to this aircheck...I've like to have a copy as well.

Since I am the "second" person to use the Jason Roberts name on radio (Hi, Mark!), go to the Dayton Broadcasters Hall Of Fame website. (www.daytonbroadcasthalloffame.com) We have WTUE airchecks from the top 40 days. (Including one of the original "Jason")

I have most of the WTUE Solid Rock Series 2 jingle package digitized. And, by the way, if you're looking for some of the musical stagers they used with it, (including the top of the hour stager), they're on a PAMS Pro Pak package that is floating around in fairly wide distribution these days.

I have the "Solid Rock Song" (it was one of the cuts on the jingle package), and if we haven't posted it on the website yet, I'll see if I can get it posted soon.
