WARM--ANYONE INTERESTED IN BRINGING WARMLAND BACK????

I haven't listened for the past two months. Reception is worse than ever, I can actually pick up WZMF better than WARM recently in Stroudsburg (and GEM never comes in). I think Cumulus has shot the horse in the head.

Is it just me, or has WARM sounded horrible over the last few days, like it's on low power?

No, it isn't just you...that station sounds terrible. But then, what can you expect when Cumulus is using an overextended engineer based in another market, an engineer whose strengths are in computers and I.T., rather than transmitters...especially those old tube-type transmitters that can easily electrocute someone who is not accustomed to working around high voltages.

The modulator supply in that old Gates BC5HA runs about 5,800 volts. The transmitter is running 3,800 volts on the RF final amplifier at nearly 2 amps. Those voltages and currents compare nicely to what was used in the electric chair!

The transmitter probably needs to be retubed and carefully tuned. An idiosyncrasy of that particular transmitter is that the RF driver stage will go into oscillation if it is not properly tuned after a tube is replaced. That oscillation will shorten tube life and cause spurious emissions that can interfere with other stations and create FCC problems. In their infinite "wisdom", Gates did not include any neutralizing capacitors in the driver or PA stages.

BTW, the annual harmonic and NRSC measurements for that station are now due.

I swear I didn't mean to think this, but a cartoon was born in my head,
showing a death row guy sitting in the chair, and the electrocutioner asking,
"So, how's it going in there? Is it hot enough for you?"

No, I can't do it....

May the ghost of Ron Allen rest in peace.

OK, so I will...."It's always WARM for me!"

Seriously, when I worked there, there was an old wooden chair in the transmitter building that looked like one that would have been used as an electric chair. I was tempted to attach wires to it and take a picture of it, then hang the picture in my office, with the caption "You can be sure...if it's Westinghouse".

I'm just curious about something. I never listen to WARM because of the awful signal, and the fact that I've heard "My Girl" be the Temptations enough times in my life. But I'm curious -- are there any LOCAL ads on WARM?

I know they air commercials. They have to because of the national ads on the satellite feed, and I would imagine there are some local avails not covered by "timed" records. And I'm sure the local ads (if any) on WARM are probably sold with packages. "Hey -- if you buy MAGIC 93, we'll throw in 50 freebies on the AM side." Something like that.

But do you hear local ads on WARM? And if so, which ones? Or are they filling those local avails with National Guard PSA's?

AND TO THINK, AT ONE TIME, THEY WERE ALWAYS SOLD OUT..ALL THE THE TIME..AND YOU PAID PREMIUM FOR SPOTS ON WARM.TIMES HAVE CHANGED.

No local spots, but the contest rules advisory seems to run every hour in the break at 35 minutes in to the hour. It's funny. There are no contests. WARM has started pushing Operation Snowflake for the season.

"WARM, now broadcasting on 590 and 1180 to serve you better"

We won't get into their CH pattern used between sunset in Scranton and sunset in Rochester.

Reunion was great, great turnout. Much going on in the background here. stay tuned...
