Warning: This Record May Be Hazardous To Your Health.

This Friday, a smoking ban goes into effect in San Antonio. So what better way to capitalize on what should be a good thing, than to attempt a world record of what is considered a bad thing.

On Thursday, Smitty's Pub will be attempting to set a new record for "most people smoking in a bar the day before a ban goes into effect". The radio angle is that it's endorsed by KZEP; in fact, you can join KZEP's own "Crash" to help set the record. Their website urges listeners to "come light it up with Crash for the last time... indoors."

I suppose there shouldn't be a problem since it's technically legal. But is nobody aware of the dangers of secondhand smoke? And multiplied by whatever the maximum occupancy of Smitty's is, at that?

They have the right to do so for the time being, unless the Fire Marshall shuts them down because they've reached capacity. I'm sure everyone by now knows the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Is nobody aware of the dangers of hand-wringing, PC busybodies? No one will be there who doesn't want to be. If second-hand smoke bothers you, don't go to places where people are smoking.

Just another useless radio stunt that will generate short term buzz. These type of stunts could end up costing companies thousands because of the high risk of lawsuits. Kinda like that contest at KDND-FM in Sacramento where a contestant died from water intoxication. It seemed harmless at first, but it ended tragically.

any second hand smoking lawsuit should be tossed out.people in the place know risks.it can`t be avoided because of the information put out.

also it would take a lot more then the second hand smoke in the place durring the record breaking attempt to kill or mess someone up badly.one would have to be around it a lot more elsewhere.besides any negative effects would take years, even decades to happen.it would be imposible to pinpoint it on the attempt to break the record.
