Christmas Music on 93.9FM last holiday season [before the WARM format change] grabbed as much as 3.4 12+ share, during the holidays. The fact that B105 didn't also go all Christmas this year also gives them the market exclusive, and VERY well may be just the push this station needs to get off those 0.8 shares for the past year.
That frequency got a major chance to get established when 5+ share WGRL 104.5's New Hit Country was sent there about 10 years ago. It quickly dropped off the radar. Granted, they have a better signal now (with a CP to improve a little more--but not to a full B1), but as long as B105.7 is saturating every radio in town with essentially the same format, their signal just doesn't have what it takes to challenge that well established station. If John Trout had any fault in this matter, it's for not researching the gig fully before taking it. As one of my all time fave PD's once told me, if the milk truck doesn't deliver to the whole city, you're probably not gonna make it. The 93.9 milk truck doesn't serve the downtown and northwest office buildings that are critical for AC success. B105.7's milk truck does...
My major complaint is they've pitched the music up so much, it really isn't an enjoyable listening experience. They may have the only Christmas show in town, but if the show stinks, who's listening?
There's been some backlash against the all-Christmas format in the last few years.
Two months of Christmas music is a bit hard to take, but in the case of WRWM it made sense to do it. They have very little to lose and probably will will benefit from it. The quality of their selection of music is a very subjective thing.
