WAY-FM buying KRKU 93.9 Loveland

I imagine that they want a commercial frequency to replace the non-commercial 89.7 to serve the Fort Collins/North Denver. This would make sense since they acquired commercial 101.9 in South Denver earlier this year. Maybe they have plans to upgrade 93.9 to more closely match the coverage of 89.7. Time will tell...

I thought the same thing that maybe they are buying KRKU 93.9 Loveland, CO because they can sell commercials on it. Then maybe they would sell KXWA 89.7 Loveland? Who would want it?

But neither 93.9 or 101.9 will have city grade coverage in Boulder, CO that 89.7 has now. But maybe being able to sell commercials is more important? 93.9 does have a CP upgrade but it will still not be as good as 89.7. Maybe they could move it to the tower that 89.7 is on and upgrade it even more.

This buy makes no sense at all! 89.7 is heard all the way from Laramie to Cheyenne down to Northern part of Denver. Then that is where 101.9 comes into play to cover the rest of Denver.. 93.9 is a waste of their money, but now at least we all know where all the money that people give way fm goes to. Buying worthless frequencies, go figiure!

Add to the fact that KCKK is now on FM at (Drum Roll Please) 93.7 as well as on AM 1510 & this move REALLY makes no sense (Or $en$e for that matter!).

Do they really think the folks at Mile High Sports will start shaking in their bootstraps over this? GIMMIE A BREAK

Just my opinion.....

Cheers :D

WAY-FM is selling KXWA 89.7 Loveland, CO to CALVARY CHAPEL AURORA for $3,050,000.

Way-FM paid 750,000 for KRKU 93.9 Loveland, CO.

Way-FM paid $2,325,000 for KKHI 101.9 Centennial, CO.

So it looks like Way-FM will owe 25,000 between the 3 deals. Not bad for better coverage of Denver now. They lose coverage of Cheyenne, WY but Air1 already covers Cheyenne with the same format.

Does that mean they going to move Kxwa up to 93.9? OR what? I don't see them loosing the front range coverage in Laramier country at all. It is a shameful thing that they have to sell 89.7 to someone else. At least now I know where all ther donation money goes towards. at least some of it.

Yeah KXWA will move to 93.9. I think they did good getting a stronger signal in Denver on 101.9 and it will end up only costing them $25,000.

I am guessing they sold 89.7 to pay for 101.9 without having to raise much pledge money to buy it. And by buying 93.9 allowed them to sell 89.7 and still cover most of the area north of Denver.

Ok here is another question that i am curious about...
89.7 is where non commerical stations can be, but 93.9 is where commericlized station can be on. but not non commericalized station. So how did Kxwa get permission(I guess) from the fcc to broadcast on 93.9? They are a non commericalized station last I checked?

I am guessing that both 93.9 and 101.9 may sell commercials and may also be why they wanted them. 101.9 is still licensed as commercial.

To answer your question Non-commercial operators can request the fcc to convert commercial frequencies to non-commercial use. The FCC will then grant it.

Air1 isn't own by WAY-FM MEDIA. It is own by KLOVE. I am just surprised that is where all the donation money is going to .. buying frequencies, I wonder what the owner is really thinking? Do a fund raiser just to do this? But then again Vick did the same thing to 107.3 (which as I recall was a non commerical station playing good music) until he sold it to KLOVE. This is pattern, start up a station and sell it to someone like WayFM. So far it isn't went through so i wonder when the deal would be sealed? it is going to be sad because no people who love Wayfm won't be able to hear it going to say Laramie.Airone doesn't broadcast the same format as Wayfm, not even close!

He wasn't trying to imply it was. He was trying to say that Way FM is similar enough to Air1 that Cheyenne probably didn't need both.

It's not the same format, but it targets basically the same audience. Air1 is Christian rock while K-Love is contemporary Christian. Way FM is Christian CHR. Christian CHR will overlap with both formats to some degree but usually has a similar audience composition to Christian rock.

Ok Airone is a christain ROCK station but that is where the simularity ends.. WAYFM is different, it actually helps people to get close to the christain religion and it is localized, plus it has helped to bring people from Cheyenne down to the Praise in the Park event every year. IF WayFM does do this, they well lose alot of people. If not already, but still Wayfm is just uquine from Air one stations.
