WAY-FM expands with 2 purchases

Why would WAY have been interested in Jackson in the first place? It seems that the market is saturated with CCM. They have AFR on 88.1 & 88.7. KLove has a LPFM and there is The Dove on 93.7. I would have probably sold the translator too.

At the time that WAY-FM applied for the translator in 2004 the only real options for CCM in Jackson were 88.1 and K-LOVE from Ripley. both of these are AC, although AFR's CCM network can go hotter occasionally. I really don't count 88.7, which carries the regular AFR network, since they are a mix of AC that leans more inspo and talk. Since then The Dove (Also AC) came in, and K-LOVE's translators. Everything that is in Jackson is AC, and I think that there would still be room for a Hot AC/CHR station like WAY-FM or Air 1 that would be geared more toward younger listeners. Apparently that won't be happening any time soon, other than what 88.1 does locally at night.

What in the world will Forever do with the translator. Their two 100,000 watt stations (92.3 & 104.1) certainly don't need it nor does 105.3. It gets Jackson easily now. They will probably use it for their AM WTJS. Seems like a waste of a good translator signal. Would have been better served like you said for HOT AC or even Urban Gospel.

There was a similar situation in Dyersburg, TN recently where Heartland Ministries in KY had a translator CP that they sold to Burks Broadcasting, and they are currently carrying WASL 100.1. This is another situation where the translator isn't really needed. It may be that if the FCC approves using FM translators for AM stations that this is what happens with all 3 of the translators. They could end up carrying WTJS in Jackson, WCMT AM in Martin, and WTRO in Dyersburg.

Matt Hahn of Ohio is the pick for GM/Sales-Underwriter guy at Way-Kentuckiana (104.3/WAYI).... Ops/Programming person should be announced, soon!!! ::) Matt has been GM at 95.1/The River in Mid-Ohio (Part of the WCVO group) and was the GM of Way-Fm/Clarksville-Fort Campbell/Hopkinsville... Great guy coming back on board with a great group.. Wonder who, from the past, might join him? They need a 'silly' guy that climbs towers and jumps in rivers... Humm? ;D

I was in the Nashville area early in October and they were saying Spring Hill was the COL at that time.

I've found out that WAY-FM's planned translator in Murray, KY is now on and is actually carrying WAYQ from Clarksville. This makes me really wonder why they were able to get the translator in Murray on, yet they sold the translator in Jackson, TN and never tried to go with WAYW on it. Their sale of the translator in Martin is not so bad, since their translator in Union City comes in there. But it seems like ever since WAY-FM has been on in Nashville there has been talk of putting a translator in Jackson that has never happened. What is keeping them from coming there? ???

Panama City CP approved

The FCC just granted the construction permit for Way FM's new purchase at 88.3 licensed to Marianna Florida. The CP gives WAY FM coverage into Panama City once it is built which is great for the redneck riviera.

WAY-FM has lost a CHRSN affiliate in WFBR-LP/Mount Washington (to the southeast of Louisville). WFBR has been shoved off the air by a channel and COL change to WQKC (from 93.7 and Seymour to 93.9 and Sellersburg).
