WB coming back, sort of...

Interesting quote from the article:

The WB and UPN networks merged to form The CW in the 2006-07 TV season, but several WB shows that moved over to the new CW lost audience.

How's that possible? The CW is more widely available than the WB was. Was there something about the WB that the CW doesn't have?

I think they should of left the name WB now this as its popular name with movies and the network The WB was a good name. It also has both names Warner and CBS in it W for Warner and B for CBS. Then in promos they would of had The WB but have the W and B come together have the W come from the word "Warner" and the B coming from CBS. Wouldn't of been that bad of a idea.

Uh....
I can see the "W" part... But "B" for CBS? How? CBS starts with a "C," not a "B" and the "B" in CBS just stands for Broadcasting.

Does anybody else have trouble following this logic?

It could have been worse. They could have called it the WC. :D

Les Moonves actually told this joke during the press conference announcing the merger.

I guess your right.

Yeah, the CW has a lack of imaging, lack of direction, poor management and decision making. This is pure evidence that two broadcasters cannot come together to make a good terrestrial broadcast entity. The WB lost completely in the deal. UPN was long gone down the toilet. I really saw the WB coming up like Fox did, even without football, and football's the big reason Fox exploded like it did.

I guess you can say in addition to the "W" they kept the "The" in the name, too.

The WB had a much stronger brand name and image than The CW does. And the ugly green & yellow color scheme can't be helping The CW any, either.

I hope all the "The WB Image Campaign" materials are part of the new site. The imaging and branding are what gave The WB such a strong identity with its target market.

The CW is too obviously a corporate compromise.

They could've named it UPNWB, WBPUM, UNtheWB. CBSII, CBSjr CBS lite, Warnumbia, Colarner, or MyNetworkTV and beat Fox to the punch

:)

Why not call it "The EYE" with a highly stylized version of the existing CBS logo?

Even include "EYE on News" "EYE on Entertainment" and other short features during breaks.

Then again, imagine the confusion between "EYE on Television" and "ion Television" or worse, "The EYE" and "i" (as ion was formerly known) - it might give viewers a headache.

No doubt it will also confuse viewers with the main CBS network, as the "eye" is so enshrined with them the last 55 years or so.

I agree, the CW is a stupid name, the logo is ugly, and so on. I think it'd be better to just go back to the WB name again. The WB as a network was far more successful than UPN, why'd they have to go and ruin a good thing? And the WB name has more recognition among a larger demographic, from the young who watch the Kid's WB! on another network, to the elderly who remember Warner Brothers films. But the CW? Doesn't do it for me!
