WBAP, THE HATE TALK OF TEXAS

I usually just lurk on here, but I had to finally step up and say something. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG AT WBAP? The Fun Guy's are all history now. No more funnys, no Shortey Lavender, no Gritt Sizzle, none of the Eric Harley imitations anymore. The morning show is BORRRRRING now. Bless Hal Jays' heart. It sounds like he's either afraid to cut up, or maybe someone's put the duck tape on him and won't let him any more. Ive woken up with Hal and Dick Segal since way back when, and even tho it sucked when Segal left, Hal is still the best and it makes the ride to work SOOOO much easier in the mornings. I cant believe someone would suck the life out of that show after all these years. So this is a writings on_the-wall for Hal or something? I sure hope not. But the way Sh!tadell's been firing everyone and messing with things, I guess I wouldn't be surprized. Losing Hal off there would be like THE final straw. Radio alreay sucks bad enough. Talk about a good reason to buy a satelite radio. But damn, bring back the stuff that made that morning show the G*R*E*A*T*E*ST!! Hals' the man!!!!! Harleys' the DUDE!!!!!! Monte and Laura Houston RULES!!!! I knew something was up when i started hearing all those HATER commercials, everything negative, Kill Obama kindof stuff. Show some respect. Let people make up their own opinion. The rest of the day at WBAp is sooooo depressing and just saps every bit of life out of me, and all the depressing news and murders and crapola that the moring news gets filled with. At least we had the morning show and HAL to break it all up and do some pretty awesome radio bits. Well we DID. Who do you write or call over there?

No one has said anything like "Kill Obama kin of stuff"

You blew whatever you point was with that lie.

The trend isn't pretty... Dan Potter, Sam From Sales, Scott Crowder, David Gold no longer part of the line-up, a parent company that won't spend any of the tremendous cash flow the station generates for anything but debt service, and a two dimensional vision of what the station is about.
My take is that the operators think of it in terms of a utility, like natural gas, or water... or maybe sewage...
I doubt Tyler Cox cares what I think about his station, but you might contact him anyway. He's the 'man-in-charge'.

Yeah I see your crap on here alot. If it doesn't have anything to do with Light Schlock 103.7, it doesn't matter to you or you have some sour comments to make. Why would you even read a posting about WBAP? ???

I knew something was up when i started hearing all those HATER commercials, everything negative, Kill Obama kindof stuff.

Do you have some examples of "kill Obama kindof stuff" on WBAP?

For real hate talk you should try Keith O on MSNBC.

That guy is going to die from an aneurysm live on air one day. He is so full of vile hate and rage... I was his #1 on his countdown a few years back and I happened to zing him pretty good at the end of the interview. He was PISSED (and the producer in my ear, along with the rest of the control room, were busting up and congratulating me on the slam - apparently they didn't think too highly of him, either.)

Ya got me...I heard the guys doing some funny (but tame) bits this morning...but no characters. Maybe Eric Harley's on vacation? I would highly doubt WBAP would drop such a longtime staple like the Fun Guys. That's one of the best parts of the morning!

The vitriol being bandied about by conservative talk show hosts now isn't much different than the venom that was spewed by liberal talk show hosts during the Bush administration. The thing that strikes me as odd, however, are the calls for checks and balances. Seems Hannity, Limbaugh, etc, had no problem with single-party control when the Republicans were running the show. "Back then" they derided the moderate Republicans who joined with moderate Democrats to make the "Gang of 14."

I couldn't agree more. Actually Olberman was great when he did sports. There was nobody better. He was actually quite entertaining when he first started doing political. We were such fans that one time in NYC we ran into him on 8th Ave as he was going into a small grocery store. My wife, a staunch conservative, nearly tackled him because she was such a fan and just wanted to say hello. She just wanted to talk and he was graceful and dignified when we talked to him. Something in him snapped the last couple of years because he is now so full of rage, hate and intollerance of Republicans, Conservatives and the past administration. If you have never seen him before you would swear he was a racist in a Nazi sort of way. He is very demonstrative and the face of the wacko left at the moment. It's a good thing his audience is so small on MSNBC and dwindling. If it were growing it would be scaring me to death. It just goes to show that the majority of people in this country are still slightly right of center and are sensible with regards to their political beliefs. Olberman always crashes and burns. That is his history from ESPN, and Fox. He's definitely on his way to his next meltdown. It's sad to see on such a talented individual.

1963rambler. The name fits. Love the subject line, btw, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with your ramblings (well, except for the bogus claim about kill obama commercials).

I also have to disagree with your labeling talk radio "hate talk". I think your post is filled with more hate than a days worth of rants from both Jeannene Garafolo and Wanda Sykes.

It's always nice to hear from listeners, isn't it? I bet Tyler's spam filter is blocking everything.

I can only take political talk in small doses. I've got better things to do with my time.

If a host has an agenda against whomever, then that person will likely never do anything right. If the public official does anything, then he shouldn't have. If he didn't do something, then he should have. Just reverse what was done & there's today's show. Save yourself the 4 hours & do something constructive.

Kinda like playing a country record backwards & you get your wife back, your pickup back, your beer back, etc. Just focus on the tune if you already know the words.

It's obvious WBAP is a right-wing station but then again that's what sells advertising in this part of the country. While I DO like Rush, et al. I do think they should at least have something as a balance in the lineup. The WBAP commercial made from angry sound bites of Mark-Rush-Hannity-Levin-Ingram is inappropriate I think.

Yep. If WBAP could make more money with all liberal hosts, they would do so in a heartbeat. In the paraphrased words of Steve Martin's character in The Jerk, "It's a profit-making scheme."

I hear this from time to time from moderate and liberal friends. If WBAP is making money with Rush & Co., what incentive in the world do they have to add a balance? And, if it's mandated (Fairness Doctrine or whatever), then doesn't the conservative audience - that is clearly bringing in the advertising revenue - just change stations? Why not just let conservatives have their talk radio home and liberals and moderates who don't like it can listen to something else. Let the market sort it out.

I'm sure you'll sleep better knowing this :), but (even as a staunch conservative), I agree.

WBAP is in no way responsible for balancing anything. Even that notion is specious. If anything, it's up to other competent professionals in the marketplace to first identify the circumstantial competitive opportunity, craft a doctrine, a plan, and the programming necessary to provide a successful alternative....Then find, hire, train, and lead the staff capable of executing the concept, put it into operation and see if it works.

The Crucible of Relentless Competition, and the Hard, Upsparing Work required to compete is where balance is found, not in artificial rules mandating a less cohesive, less consistent, less competent on-air product....Rules lobbied for by those less capable, less determined, and yes, less talented who say, "it's unfair!" "Make the leader as mediocre as we are, so there's more balance!...So we matter too!"

The Truth: The Best Run, Best Programmed, Best Executed, Best Sounding Radio Stations win....At any time, in any Market.

Kiss, The Wolf, Recuerdo, WBAP, The Ticket prove that every day.

Actually, it's the one that gets the most money that wins. The people who have the money get to choose what is successful, regardless of the programming, execution and sound.

Do you think there should be some sort of accountability for the effect an operation has on the community it serves?

Does Truth have a value, even if it can't be calculated in $$$?

And what about the financial leaders who saddled our industry with a crushing level of debt? That's the root of the original discussion.

Jon-David. I notice you don't mention your own station on that list of Best Run, etc.
Does that have some not-so-hidden-meaning? ::)
