WBCN & The Marshfield Fair

Varulven said:
You aren't apologizing at all, Paul, you are defensively showboating.

You got fired from WAAF; I have 100 per cent control and interview fascinating people from all walks of life.

if a radio station CAN'T draw 30,000 people, they'd better hang it up. Especially in Missouri or Kansas or anywhere where most people are bored. Paul, you've attacked me viciously, and you failed to make a dent in the big city. Glad they embraced you in a world that is radio's 300th market out of 50. Good work.
Glad you are happy and can pat yourself on the back in this forum. Please note: This is the BOSTON forum,
where you were fired twice in the last year. I'm still on the air, last I checked.

Actually Joe, once again you are factually incorrect. I'd ask that you check your facts.

You point out that this is the BOSTON forum. Nowhere does it say you must LIVE in Boston to participate. As a matter of fact, even those who work in suburban cable TV markets are welcome. We're all here to talk about BOSTON radio. Which means this whole thread is misplaced huh? Because Marshfield is not Boston.

Additionally, Kansas City is Arbitron radio market #29 (Bigger than Providence, Manchester, Portsmouth, Woburn, Marshfield..you know A pretty good size city) with a metro populus of just over 1.5 million people, and another 2 million in the surrounding area. It puts us a little under the metro size of Boston.

I was fired from WAAF due to a change in direction. Nothing more. Nothing less. I left WBCN amicably for a better opportunity than what they had to offer at the time. I have nothing but love for both experiences. And I believe the people I worked with at either station would speak well of me. Printing that I was fired from WBCN is simply an untruth. Give 'em a call 617-746-1400. Ask for Dave Wellington. You're repeatedly printing misinformation Joe. Or, as you'd call it, libel.

I was also re-hired by the same company that fired me. For one of the premier jobs at one of their premier radio stations in America. Which, if I'm not wrong, no company would do for any employee they didn't deem valuable Joe.

You also leave out the fact that you cannot be fired from your "job." It's community access Joe. They legally must allow you access to their airwaves. And I'm fairly certain you've made them well aware of their "legal obligation."

You can respond with how cool you are again Joe. I feel like a jerk for fellating myself this much in any post. I'm not saying yours does...but my ego doesn't need to be satiated by constant reinforcement of my accomplishments.

I'm done with this for real, forever.

Again...apologies for contributing to this stupidity. It is a rainy day in KC, and the Satellite's out :)

Thread closing in t-minus 5...4...3...

Check YOUR facts - I said fired or "resigned" or "basically fired" in regards to WBCN. Take your pick. My opinion is that you weren't wanted and you have not proven that WBCN or WAAF wanted you.

They didn't want you. Amicably leaving - yeah - don't let the door hit you on the way out. Dave Wellington didn't give you the Toucher & Rich shift, did he? Guess you weren't HIRED so technically you couldn't be fired.
There are only 8 companies that own radio stations in America so if WAAF fires you - with good reason - one of the hundreds of other stations still might hire you if you are persistent enough.

RE: Access

One city, I won't say the name, just bashed an 80 year old woman. What did she do? She put her husband's show on the air which had the Public Access TV station president attacking her husband...physically. So they censored her husband's tv show - illegally - because they didn't want the city seeing what a putz the tv president is and what he did to her husband on our FIRST AMMENDMENT protected TV channel. Unlike you, Paul, I won't stand for censorship. I SUED the president and filed a complaint. City Hall has opened its files to me, so it is clear the Mayor wants the people in control removed and they are giving me the tools to do it.

So you can't put a show on with just a "zip code" because too many politically motivated people abuse the
$425,000.00 or so in funding. "Little access" - that you people write - is amazingly NOT FACTUAL. These are real TV stations with millions and millions of dollars in funding - and there are turf wars over them.

A guy like yours truly is a goldmine for the lawyers because they get paid by the insurers to try to protect bad behaviour while a whistleblower like me takes them into court and puts their misconduct on public record.

But I will FIGHT for YOUR right to be on Access Paul, and Tina's right - the 80 year old woman they took membership money from but WON'T air her show in violation of section 17 of the agreement with the City,
and numerous other producers who can't get their show on the air because the station management uses
the station for their own "infomercials" or other nefarious things - like diverting money to a webmaster that was on their board instead of putting that job up for bid. Gee, sounds like a station you just amicably left, doesn't it? Not like I haven't been in this battle before - and not like I don't know the rules and how to deal with people who spend their time abusing the system. The sad thing is - this station where they just ostracized a man and woman in their 80s is where they cut the comedy tape of Oedipus getting CDs from the record labels, a big truck going to the WBCN door, which was aired at the Hard Rock Cafe for the Oedipus Roast.

You know SO LITTLE about access and the tough First Ammendment fight, or what I do as charity work to help homeless dogs and cats, and to help volunteer producers.

Access means a lot to many of us. For you to denigrate this volunteerism says more about your lack of morals and ethics than anything about our hard work and honest efforts.

How does public access or who fired who have anything to do with wbcn crashing a van at the Marshfield fair?. I did not mention the remote puts my public access show on teh same playing field as Jay Leno comment because it's not even a logical statement. I actually thought Varulven was joking when he said it but I guess not. Public access is fine but it doesnt have any meaning in the world of the media we all know that. Anyway this is a radio forum and discussions about public access should not even be part of the discussion so what about getting back to radio?.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I think WBCN wrecking their van at the Marshfield fair is a great re-introduction of WBCN to fun, community events. I'd love to see them bring back the Rock N' Roll Expos. I hope this is the first step in an on-the-street competition between Chachi, Chris Rucker & his troops, and Adam Ralston, & his band of street teamers. Radio is show business, and the show is just as much on the streets as it is on the air. A nice street "war" will only make Boston radio that much more fun for the listeners.

And fun...has been missing in radio for far too long. Let's all take the crosses off our backs and get back to making people enjoy the experience.

I can't believe the exchange I just read.

How high do you have to be to equate a NON PAYING job running a public cable access show and a "record label" that makes zero dinero to a PD gig in a good sized market?

The beauty of capitalism is that it gives us a decent barometer--if you're worth something, people will pay you. If they don't, you ain't worth nothing.

Congrats on doing so well in KC, MO, Paul.

The beauty of the internet is anyone with a handle - a Pug Ugly from Entercom, for example, can denigrate record labels and hard working people. Failed interns who lash out because they can't get hired.

Would love to see a "Pug Ugly" put a business plan together and get backing for a Buddy Guy project or put business plans together for national TV specials from Paul Sorvino and Marilyn Horne - but then again - the Swift Boaties like Pug Ugly will scream "HE'S PROMOTING HIMSELF AGAIN". Double standards for failed little interns who have never done anything of significance in their miserable little "careers".

I've forgotten more about the biz then Pug Ugly / Neanderpaul / Lucy Lu will ever learn. Neanderpaul - the next Howard Stern? Hardly. The next Opie & Anthony? HA HA HA. How about, the next Morton Downey Jr.? Maybe...

Where did your "national TV specials" air? Who has seen them? Not me.

"Putting business plans together" = a pitch. Has anyone ever seen these specials? Nope--pipedreams

NeanderPaul has a paying job. You have a cable access show in a small suburb of a small city.

[EDIT]

[EDIT=ad hominem attack]

I do beleive his cable show is on in most of the cities and towns around Boston. I know for a fact it is certainly more than a few.

That is a practice called ‘bicycling’, I believe; local cable access stations feed each other content so they all have something/anything on the air. “An alternative to dead air and public service announcements” could be a great tag line Joe could use for his show, free of charge. You’re welcome.

I did a little research: the ‘rock lobster’ at WBCN was a guy named Scott. He also worked on the listener line, which was the backbone of BCN, back in the day (as they say). He went on to become a writer for the Brockton Enterprise.

No wonder Joe was so jealous of him: Scott was a professional musician, worked at a radio station and became a professional journalist; all the things Joe is not. That has to hurt. I’m sure no one is ‘proud’ that they once wore a lobster suit (who know, maybe they are) but when they are looking in the career rearview mirror at Joe stuck on the side of the road, you have to laugh. :D

Ahem, [EDIT**].

Scott's a nice fellow and writes for a local paper; I was pleased to see him thank me in a book he published about John Lennon's Uncle, Charlie, who appeared on my cable show as have many other notable individuals.

http://books.google.com/books?vid=I...scott+wheeler&sig=ZCKQ6A3ddY_zGMCjQ1TH2r9itV8

Scott has a "custom published" book; I'm listed as a contributor in 7 international books - work that I get paid for - not something I have to pay to publish. Lucy Lu, you were saying? How did some of the publishers hire me? My cable program.

My cable show is one of the most established in New England; it takes a huge investment and a lot of hard work, something the hacks here have no clue about. We are on about 17 stations in the New England area and more stations around the U.S.A. If I had more time we could be on about 500 U.S. stations and that is in the future as DVDs make bringing more stations onboard cost effective. The good works we have done for homeless animals and other people in need are a plus along with the hundreds of book authors we've interviewed (we as I have multiple hosts) from just about every single major publisher over the past 11 years, having started in Cable back in 1979 - one of the originals in this region, is something I am very proud of.
Listening to people for 359 hours is intense - but one can learn quite a lot listening. Our guests have included Senator George McGovern, Mayor Menino, major songwriters, singers, film directors, athletes like Jerry Remy, Johnny Pesky, Curt Schilling and everyday people who have contributed to society. Pug Ugly and Lucy Lu are not scheduled to appear - they aren't fit to shine the shoes of some of my guests.

The people who have molested this thread don't seem to realize God gave you two ears and one mouth. Because they think their two hands pecking away 1 word at a time on a keyboard make them "special". Whatever...

And what have Pug Ugly and Lucy Lu contributed: Attacks on hard working people. The more they swift boat, the more I will NOT do a John Kerry. I'm happy to show these cowards who post with no real name a resume I am happy to call mine.

Lucy Lu has [EDIT]. She and Pug Ugly have just been reported to the moderators for posting libel from the shadows. It is easy to attack a man who has worked with Buddy Guy, Alvin Lee with George Harrison, who has successfully worked at numerous jobs in the media over the past 30 years including representing a number of major producers, engineers and classic rock artists.

The people on this board who know me know that I have more articles published - and paid for - than most
legitimate writers in the Boston area. The TV specials "Paul Sorvino: An Evening Of Song" and the follow-up with Marilyn Horne were PBS specials when I was Director of Research for North American Media in 1995.
Fascinating - people with no names like Pug Ugly and Lucy Lu want to stab a man in the back, belittle the thousands of articles I have written over the past decade (written and paid for), my established record label
with discs that fetch big bucks on eBay and Gemm (Moe Tucker of the Velvet Underground; involvement with
music from Marty Balin of The Starship; Spirit, Alvin Lee, etc. etc.)

While at the TV company I was flown to Seattle for the Sorvino special (taping two nights out there because the fees were lower; we stayed at that Four Seasons hotel that you can see in the film Disclosure), flown to Philly, West Palm Beach and New York multiple times. The morons here have no clue about what real people do in a real industry. A LOT more exciting than being a "Music Director" in Kansas I can assure you. A lot more work but a LOT more enlightening getting the heck out of this city and the truly petty little people who are too cowardly to put their names into print when they go on their incessant attacks.

As the CEO of North American Media said "Joe's forgotten more than most people will ever learn."

Like it or not, losers with no names but fake handles and allegiance to a corrupt program director, my work has influenced this region. Bobby Hebb tours Germany and Japan (to sold out houses) and returns telling me how my writings are popular in those regions; Oedipus returns from France and mails me an article (which he translates from the French) "The Five Crazy Geniuses of Rock & Roll" which include Frank Zappa, yours truly,
Captain Beefheart, etc.

Again - you can read this on my website; I only post this information here after the Swift Boaties do their thing.

We've seen what one underhanded individual attempted to do when he couldn't get to me, it was vile and despicable. Pug Ugly and Lucy Lu should be banned for the b.s.

But so it goes. I have a resume, they don't, and there is a stack of writing I have to get done right now so go have lunch with a radio station owner who will probably never hire you, Lucy Lu and stop your obsession with me. The anti-gay posts and the anti-Var posts show why you can't get hired in this industry.

There you go, Swift Boaties. Now send yer resumes out to Ed Perry, get rejected, and come in here and vent your anger at me. [EDIT]. So she vents in here.

"Joe is the hardest working man in Boston Rock & Roll" Oedipus at Pete Shelley Dinner. He meant it, even though we were at odds.

"Boston's hardest working underground impresario" The Boston Globe.

One of Boston's 5 best bands - Playboy Magazine

(Playboy used to post the Top 5 bands from cities around the U.S.A. My music - not my band name - my name - listed in the Top 5; a little bit more harder to obtain than a "win" in the fixed WBCN Rock & Roll Rumble).

[EDIT**=ad hominem attack[EDIT-namecalling]

[EDIT]

Back to topic: I can’t understand why BCN would mine their past for promos like ‘van drops’ when they’ve done everything the can do distance themselves from that same past. I wonder if Cha Chi will be the next link to the good old BCN that will be let go?

[EDIT=personal attack.]

Opps: I forgot. You can say things about Joe on his personal radio board, while he is free to slander at will. I wonder why that is?

First, Lucy Lu, a spelling lesson:

s-l-a-n-d-e-r does not spell libel. You have no name & no resume. So calling you an overweight little waitress does no financial harm to a "Lucy Lu" who, in the real world, doesn't exist. Some say in the real world even that person under her own name doesn't exist, and therein lies the problem: her psychosis.

Constantly badgering a man who has produced major acts, who has produced major television, who chooses to do a cable access show, and who uses his company name as his handle, makes YOU liable for serious legal ramifications IF someone finds out who you really are.

Anything I've posted about WBCN or WRKO is factual in regards to, oh - say a promo tape tracked at an access station for the "Oedipus Roast", thus it is not libel. Word is that Oedipus loved it - though if true - proves he is a total embarrassment to the industry. They make a tape of a big truck pulling up to the WBCN
doors with promo cds for Oedipus to sell and Oedi thinks it funny? Now see, the second part is opinion (Oedipus is an embarrassment) - just like my personal opinion that John DePetro is a terrible talk show host, out of his league, and doing the city a terrible disservice. Got it, Lucy Lu, my little shadow? You are a libelous, jealous nobody who now has been taught the difference between slander and libel, though it is obvious you are guilty of both.

from Wikipedia for you

"Libel" redirects here; for other uses, see Libel (disambiguation). For "liable", see Liability.

In law, defamation is a right of action for communicating statements that may harm of an individual's reputation or character. The common law origins of defamation lie in the torts of slander (harmful statement in a transitory form, esp. speech) and libel (harmful statement in a fixed medium, esp. writing but also a picture, sign, or electronic broadcast), each which give a common law rights of action.

"Defamation" is the general term used internationally, and is used in this article where it is not necessary to distinguish between "slander" and "libel". Libel is defamation that is published, but can also happen in other forms, such as effigy, a motion picture, or a statue; slander refers to any verbal, unpublished, defamation.

[EDIT]

Once again, Paul has a paying job and you don't. No one anywhere would voluntarily choose a cable access gig in Malden over a PD job in Kansas City.

[EDIT-personal attacks]

Pug Ugly is a [*EDIT] in Boston with no gig.

Hey - I love being able to promote actor Gianni Russo (The Godfather, Seabisquit), Peter Noone (Herman's Hermits), and best selling author Patricia Gaffney on this board. As stated before, the access show is my hobby which I invest in. Lucy Lu and Pug Ugly can't afford 25 DVDs every other week, nor the postage, nor the mileage or other incidentals which come with making a 60 minute TV program.

[**EDIT]? And take things off topic?
