WBCN THE ROCK OF BOSTON?

There is actually a Save WBCN group out there on Facebook

You have to be a facebook member to see it though as far as I know.
"For 41 years, this station has been a beacon of Rock and Roll. This group is established to voice objection to this decision by CBS."

From what I've read CBS took a good Rock station and first eliminated everything about it that worked, created an overused playlist, put a bean counter in charge of musical selection and then when the inevitable happened decided it was much better to complete the destruction of a long standing station rich in history and followers. Hmmm. How could I know all this? Well there was this little off the beaten path radio station known for it's originality and diversity and Infinity/Viacom/CBS bought it and first eliminated everything about it that worked.....I feel for all the fans of WBCN,I've been putting up with 4 years of CBS nonsense with the remnants of WHFS being slapped on this HD2 and that stream and a couple other frequencies and who knows whats next....maybe it'll be the calls for a traffic repeater next week....

Which company bought the station that caused the strike during the late 70's? That was the beginning of the long slide. I remember it well, was also right after the movie FM of which Steely Dan wrote the great theme song of the same name.

I believe that company was Hemisphere Broadcasting.

I'm just curious: How come 104.1 just switch to top 40? I personally don't like top 40 music. I mean I saw this (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/1041-NOW-FM/58904407681?ref=search) awhile ago, but you would think CBS would save money and go this route...

You mean why don't they switch to Top 40? They probably feel it's potentially more profitable to launch the only FM all-sports station in the immediate Boston market than to try to compete with Kiss 108.
