WBCN's Farewell

recorded the last 20 min. here on my netbook while traveling...not sure when BMX mjusic will kick in.
After fake (real?) static and a couple bits of silence (they doing some technical stuff?) gave up on it.

Bradley J did an ID at 12:am over music. A montage of BCN DJ's from 12:03 to 12:05 and ending with an "over and out" to static.

I Feel Free, great great song. Wonder what will be last.

no longer sure - what is this song? info please!

"I Feel Free" by Cream... For you youngsters, Cream was Eric Clapton's old band from 1966 to 1969... Better known for their hits such as "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "White Room"... "I Feel Free" was the first song played when WBCN debuted their rock programming on March 15, 1968.

After about the first minute of "static", there was a spoken recorded WBMX, WBMX HD-1 Boston ID.

still waiting for one if you guys to get the audio... I surprised nothing yet

Just so you know, I've recorded everything since Friday (yes I know I'm crazy) so if anyone wants anything from the last days of BCN, let me know.

I recorded it off the 32k stream, will have to see how it came out. Their site was crashing at times. I'll try uploading it tomorrow and post you a link if you check back this thread tomorrow. Cheers. :)

Yes! I'm looking for this morning with Sam Kopper, and also 5pm-9pm Sunday.

I didn't grow up in Boston, and as a 25-year old, was not alive during the heyday of WBCN. However, as a Patriots fan, my only exposure to their work in Burlington, VT was what I heard on the Patriots Rock Radio Network. While everybody else is talking about the talk shows and the music, I remember the first time I "turned down the TV and turned up the radio" to listen to Gil and Gino. 15 years later, that's still how I watch Pats games at home. I always enjoyed Bill Abbate's work on the pre/postgame shows, and the wacky imaging not typical of a sportscast that went away years ago.

I am surprised that no one has gotten audio yet!

That was almost physically painful. When I first heard the announcement I didn't think that much of it because I haven't been a fan of the format since they took it all out of the hands of the dj's. But then they brought those guys back and pretty much have been running the REAL bcn format for the past few days.

And all I could think of was my teenage years taping entire shows and replaying them later. Their range was so surprising and unpredictable it made us fall in love with the full spectrum of rock, not just one facet. And they respected the music - not playing over the ends of songs luck all those suck stations today where music is an afterthought. Guys like Ken Shelton and Bradley J were gods to me.

Long live WBCN.

So, they've been running this fake static for over and hour, but lately it's been going from completely dead air to this fake static. I just heard a few seconds of the song "'Cause nobody wants to be the last one there..." but then it went right back to static. I wonder what's going on.
