WBMW Briefly Flips From Christmas, Back To Secular Music

Apparently, WBMW is acting like a little Scrooge this afternoon. At 12:04 PM, right at the end of a holiday legal ID (and the announcer saying "WBMW, Ledyard/Groton/Mystic") right as the phrase "Merry Christmas" is sung, I heard a popping sound, followed by what sounded like the needle on a record. Basically, dead air for about thirty seconds. Then, music kicked in, specifically, a song by Hall & Oates... but it was not "Jingle Bell Rock"! It was the tail end of the song "Out Of Touch," then a generic liner ("How do you spell variety? W-B-M-W") before the next song, Des'ree's "You Gotta Be" played. Then another generic liner, followed by Steve Winwood's "Don't You Know What The Night Can Do," before a holiday liner ("why do you think Rudolph's nose is glowing") and regular Christmas music resumed.

What happened there? Glenn?

I'm not the official Radio-info spokesman for Red Wolf, but I can say it was the second of two "weather related incidents" today at 7am and 12noon. The storm hit southeastern CT very hard today. Thanks to PD Brian and IT guy Alex for getting us back on. I would hardly call most of our Christmas music "non-secular", but perhaps the emergency backup music should be Christmas music too thru the 25th. Did I just volunteer for another project?

If I recall one of the jocks' messages during a talk break, she told listeners that they could hear either holiday music or regular music, anywhere at the station's website. If that is the case, then it's possible that the generator just defaulted to the "secular" online music feed.
