WBNX Fall 2022

Kind of a crude irony. As for years (It's entire existence, I think) WJ(K)W simply didn't show "The CBS Late Movie/CBS Late Night" programming by choice. At one point, I think it was even deferred to WCLQ. My thinking is WJW anticipated Letterman before the network switch was announced, and brought on Arsenio believing they'd have an all new programming block and audience for late night.

WJW (as Fox) wasn't completely innocent of passing up network shows. I think the "Fox Kids" and "Fox Kids Club" were picked up by WBNX. To this day the 11 A.M. "Fox NFL Kickoff" show is sent over to Channel 8.2
WJW actually passed on Pat Sajak's talk show in favor of Arsenio Hall back in 1989. Sajak would end up on WOAC in Canton.

On September 12, WKYC is launching a new 4pm newscast. It's going to have the "What's New" title, while the 5pm news is going to be called "What's Now."

They keep this up [adding news shows] and they're going to run out of "What's" to call it. Soon..."What's Up, Doc"; new medical news show, "What's You Talking About [Willis]", "What's Happening!-Hosted by the ghost of Freddie "Rerun" Stubbs", "What's Wrong With You?" and on and on and on.

With channel 3's new 4p newscast, this now means that all 4 Cleveland TV newsrooms will go head to head (to head to head) with news from 4-6:30p every weekday.

Then there will be a new 3am newscast called "What's The Deal With That?"

I should add there's always "What's Hot!"
I kind of wish they'd rebrand ALL of their newscasts, with regular "Adult names".

"Action 3 News" or "WKYC Newscenter" would suffice. The earlier was used in the late 1970's/early 80's and has since been tarnished by 19. I wonder what out-of-towners think is on when the Rovi (My Cable Guide) shows such things as "Channel 3 Go" or "What's Next?". (In the latters case...Flipping to the next channel.)

They could always start a local game show morphing the Monty Hall and Howie Mandel show themes and call it "What's the Deal?"

WUAB is now airing the court shows (Supreme Justice and America's Court) on Sunday afternoons after they were displaced to make room for more local news.
Both shows are coming back to weekdays in the fall - Supreme Justice at noon, and a double shot of America's Court at 4a.

Channel 43 is also picking up one of WBNX's discarded court shows, Justice with Judge Mablean at 12:30p, and will have Lauren Lake's new court show We The People at 1p, giving WUAB a full 5 hour judge block from noon-5p.

Drew Barrymore moves to 10a, Steve Wilkos goes to 3a, the new to syndication sitcom American Housewife (from ABC) gets a double dip at 5p,

The cancellations of Maury Povich and "Judge Jerry" Springer helped free up some room.

Followed by "What's That On Your Shirt?" - a full hour of one guy having another look down at his shirt and flicking him in the nose.

On September 12, WJW is running TWO hours of New Day Cleveland from 10am until noon, a full-hour of informercials at 1pm and TWO hours of Judge Judy from 2pm to 4pm.

Karamo Brown will get the 1p slot on 9/19. The Judge Judy mini-marathon is for keeps. Don't know about 11a going forward

Surprised nobody has brought up the new WKYC Saturday Night/Sunday Morning News program with Keenan Thompson called "Cleveland: What's Up With That?"

:ROFLMAO: - We really need to stop this...

However, "OMG!", "LMAO", and "TGIF" could follow. It has seriously come to the point where news, isn't news...But opinion and "Feel good stories" that often just don't feel that good...

How about more risky weather segments where they simply throw a dart at a 'marked with weather forecasts' dart board.

If the weather folks are ever offended by our turning off the weather segments and simply using our cell phones...They need look no further than how they deliver the forecast itself. Everything - Except for "Currently", "Tonight" and "Tomorrow"...And always -- "In the next segment, we'll tell you some more....."

One of the last vestiges of the Covid pandemic is coming to an end.

The 9a daily hour of Cleveland Schools programming which airs on WUAB CW 43 will be no more as of 9/19 when it is replaced by reruns of Dateline - which are moving over from WBNX TV 55.

Remember the CMSD hour came to be at the start of the pandemic when everything was locked down, and schools were closed and done virtually.

And now 2 1/2 years later and with the new school year starting, it's about ready to wrap up.

On the upside, it's not another hour of 19 News taking its spot.

Speaking of additional newscasts, does Fox 8 still end the 7am hour with "your only local news, weather, and traffic until 10am"?

Actually, Fox 8 will be live and local from 4a all the way to 1p every weekday as of next Monday, when New Day Cleveland will officially expand to 2 full live hours.

Then on 9/19 the lineup from 1-4p will be Karamo Brown's new talk show, Steve Wilkos (moving over from WUAB CW 43), and a double shot of Judge Judy (no more quadruple plays).

WJW seems to be heading more and more towards being more local 24-7. New Day Cleveland looks to become more like the old Morning Exchange. I will say it is better to expand New Day instead of launching yet another newscast.

I will add that the new fall local lineups appear to be underwhelming. I can see it only get worse from here.
