WBNX Fall 2022

I get it, but 2 hours of Feud within a 3 hour period seems excessive
(I shouldn't even go there. )

They could always give Feud to WVPX, where they would show it about 16 hours a day and encourage us to "binge".

PaxTV seemed so promising 24 years ago. Ion...Not as much.

I would have watched PAX more if my reception of WVPX back in the day wasn't so snowy and plagued with multipath. I always wanted them to switch with Univision on WQHS, but that was before I had a good understanding on how these events played out. Now half the Katz networks are on WVPX, with Ion Mystery & Bounce eventually leaving WQHS & WUAB respectively, and I have a feeling that Bounce will end up replacing Grit on WEWS, hence the reason why they placed Grit on WVPX as well. Too bad they can't move the WVPX transmitter to Parma to better reach the suburbs along the lake, though possible if they throw nulls towards the west and northwest to protect WDWO-CD and WBGU.

Perhaps WVPX can acquire one of the numerous LPTV stations in Cleveland and use it as a repeater to reach the areas along the lake.

Which ones? W27EA-D is going to Weigel and WTCL is owned by Gray for use as a Telemundo affiliate as well as another repeater for WOIO 19.1/WUAB 43.1/Circle.

WRAP-LD would make a nice repeater for WVPX, but I don't see that happening unless Inyo was really despite and gave the current owner more than what the station is worth. I'd rather see WRAP-LD as a Cleveland repeater of WIVM-LD instead of their wimpy RF 13 application that they're currently waiting on approval for. I doubt that HC2 will give up any of their stations, even though their coverage area(s) are not anything to brag about, and will probably not do any better in most areas.

Then there's WCDN-LD, but let's face it. Most viewers will have better luck trying to pull in WVPX than WCDN-LD's .3 kW signal.

I'm surprised to see a lot of the court shows gone with the exception of Relative Court and Divorce Court (with Star Jones taking over come fall). I guess they wanted to give the genre a rest.

WBNX has aired a lot that has come and gone over the years, though I thought Paternity Court would run forever like Judge Judy.

Of course, WUAB could always pick up the discarded court shows, unless they have been cancelled.

All those court shows can go! They were nothing but filler years ago when stations/networks abandoned their weekday kids programming.

It would be nice if WBNX could air a few classic shows to give the station more of a classic feel, but I'd imagine that such shows won't bring in the ratings or ad revenue. Plus, many classic shows are under contract with such diginets, so they are probably unavailable anyhow. WBNX did air Andy Griffith on 55.2 many years ago, as well as some syndicated programs Sunday morning up until the Buzzr affiliation, probably in an attempt to limit the Ernest Angley programming and create a more independent channel during The CW years, but it probably wasn't cost efficient. At least their affiliations with Movies, H&I and Decades helped filled the void.

For all of the News that Channels 19/43 cram at us. I wish they'd air channel 6 news at least once a day (Although I'm pretty rusty on my Spanish). It doesn't look like WTCL is coming to cable anytime soon and my signal is weak.

WCDN I pick up in Parma, WTCL not as good. Also, WCDN comes in fairly decent for me, but none of the DTV channels even show a signal. Since Buzzer moved to 55.2, DTV airs nothing on all of it's stations that draws interest. (And they seem to change them constantly.)

WRAP-LD has been a mystery channel since it's onset. Can't help but believe you have a valid point in stating that ownership may hold out and try to overcharge any legitimate buyer.

Like has been mentioned before. I'm anxious to see Weigel's plans for W27EA-D (Which I still call "The Cat")

It looks like reruns of Bull and Wipeout are leaving the WBNX lineup as well.
Wipeout is leaving syndication.

Bull will still be syndicated, but obviously will have to find a new home (either 43 or perhaps WEWS 5, which will be losing the soon to be out of syndication Castle which airs late nights on weekends).

There will actually be some real changes to some stations' lineups this year, as a lot of stalwart syndicated shows (Ellen, Wendy Williams, The Doctors, The Real, Maury Povich) are done come fall.

WKYC 3 will likely shift Kelly Clarkson to 3p to replace Ellen, giving them the 11a hour to play with,.

WEWS will probably carry Sherri Shepard - the designated replacement for Wendy Williams - at 10a

WJW is gonna be interesting, as they need to replace Doctor (Senator?) Oz/The Good Dish, The Real, and Daily Mail TV. Karamo Brown takes care of one hour, but then what? (more news?)

WOIO is pretty well set in stone with news in most non-network daytime slots.

WUAB is a wild card - do they stick with what they have or perhaps tweak a few things depending on what other stations do? For example, will WKYC or WJW poach Drew Barrymore's show to fill one of their gaps? Then maybe channel 43 picks up a couple of court shows that channel 55 dumped to replace Drew?

All kinds of ways the cookie can crumble.

I assume MyNetworkTV is still airing in the wee hours on 19.2. Maybe they can move it back to 43.
I'm not sure the purpose of that "network" but MyNetworkTV is still on 19.2. I think it's another that blows the same early 2000's dramas at us for two hours a night. Somehow, Metv manages 65 minute of Perry Mason at 11:30 and I think it bumps MyNetwork to 1:05 to 3:00 (After Twilight Zone). I wonder if 5 minutes of MeTV commercial time is more valuable then if it was during the MyNetworkTVs programming?

IIRC - MyNetwork has been around since the TheWB/UPN departure and CW appearance. Closing in on 16 years ago.

Correct.

It was essentially the consolation prize for stations who lost out when UPN and WB merged to form the CW.

Remember at it's start, MyNet actually ran first-run American versions of Spanish telenovelas every weeknight.

When that flopped, they went to reality shows and even aired WWE Smackdown on Friday nights.

In 2009, they dropped their network status and settled in to being the rerun factory it has been ever since.

Skiwest is gonna love this...

WBNX tweaked their fall lineup - they will now have a third hour-long block of Family Feud at 3p weekdays, to go along with along with 7p and 9p, swapping out an extra showing of Chicago PD to make room.

So outside of an hour of sitcoms at 6p, come fall, TV 55 will have a game show block stretching from 3-10p every weekday with a 6-pack of Feud, along with double shots of Pictionary (new in 2022), 25 Words or Less, and the Jay Leno hosted You Bet Your Life revival.

I guess Buzzr is doing well for them on 55.2, and they want the main channel to get in on some of that.

What did WBNX have to eliminate to make room for an extra hour of Family Feud?
A 2nd airing of Chicago PD.

CPD is returning to syndication this fall, 55 had originally planned on giving it a double shot, but now it will only be getting one airing (matched up with Chicago Fire - which debuted on 55 this past fall)

Augh!

Likely Buzzr's contract was coming to an end on WEKA-LD, which had it since the beginning of 2016, and WBNX probably agreed to pick up and the network and replace the majority of Ernest Angely programming with it. It's nice to finally have the network on a station with a signal that can actually be received. I would have watched more of the network if WEKA's reception wasn't so intermittent, but at least Samsung added Buzzr's online stream sometime in 2019 to my list of channels, which helped.

Also, had Fox been successful in re-acquiring WJW after the sale to Nexstar, Buzzr would have likely ended up there as many Fox O&O stations carry them.

So with the shuffling around, WBNX basically has their new fall lineup structured like this:

Sitcoms early mornings
Court shows late mornings
Talk shows and "Chicago" dramas middays
Game shows late afternoons through the bulk of the evening
Sitcoms late evenings
Celebrity gossip/tabloid shows late nights
And a double shot of Law and Order SVU overnight

I guess Buzzr is doing well for them on 55.2, and they want the main channel to get in on some of that.
Possible synergy???

Perhaps millennial's like the WBNX game shows, older people like Buzzr's (Admit I'm hooked on the 4-5 pm airings of "Press your luck" and "Whew!). Adding Buzzr to the Subchannel lineup may have created something, who knows???

To WBNX's defense...Most current sitcoms that could go into syndication, just don't fit a demographic type schedule. I kind of wish they could bring some 1980's & 90's into the fold...For one, I can't remember the last time "Mad About You" was on anybody's schedule. Those types of shows might be "remembered" by younger generations that would give them a watchover again.

Most 80s and 90s shows have now been sucked up by all the various classic TV diginets like MeTV (and all of its spinoffs), Antenna TV (with its 80s/90s focused spinoff Rewind TV), Cozi TV and Get TV.

They're just not there to be had.
