WBNX to be acquired by Nexstar & re-affiliate with the CW in Fall 2025 creating a duopoly with FOX affiliate WJW

The first thing I thought of when I saw this new logo, and in particular the "Cleveland's" script, is "Cavaliers". Chances are we're going to see a Cavs-RESN-WUAB TV rights deal very soon.

This also has a lot to do with timing. The 90-day countdown for the CW's move to WBNX starts next week and WBNX will be using the same CW logo WUAB did in September. Might as well start to deemphasize the CW brand sooner than later.

WBNX posted yesterday (April 25) on their Facebook page for the first time since March 2. Nothing special, just a community spotlight video. Not sure if it was Nexstar or Winston Broadcasting who uploaded the video, but the AI voice over suggests that it was created by Nexstar.

Their website appears to be totally abandoned at this point. No upcoming movies, and it still references Movies on 55.3 and Binge on 55.6. I take it that this will change to either a re-direct to a sub-page on WJW's website or get fully overhauled once Nexstar has proper control of the domain.

Winston Broadcasting no longer exists. That video likely used pre-existing templates WBNX had in their servers and wouldn't take long to assemble.

Nexstar owns the WBNX.com domain; there is no reason to believe they didn't buy the domain along with the license. The website is a lame duck and will be until September 1.

Nexstar used to have a goofy practice of long domain names for their stations (think along the lines of "weareforestcity216proud.com") so at least be grateful they retained fox8.com. Plus the station doesn't really need a separate website if it's now merely an extension of WJW.

If that's the case, you would think that someone would at least update the footer on their website and the ownership on their Facebook page to Nexstar Broadcasting.

I was never a fan of Nexstar and the goody and long website names either was glad they kept the Wood TV domain name nothing goofy rebrand when Nexstar bought Media General in 2017.

So, does anybody here know anyone that I can directly contact at Nexstar or WJW? I'm really getting tired of their over-processed audio, and contacting WJW using their contact forum and directly emailing the licensee on WJW's FCC's LMS page has yielded in no replies and no results. I've contacted WJW several times in the past, and last time I ever heard back from anyone was back in 2012! It's like they don't give a rat's butt. WBNX, now suffering from the over-processed audio since Nexstar took over, was really good at replying back and addressing my feedback, but I'm sure that no one will reply back to their feedback email now, and if they do, will simply state that the station is now owned by Nexstar and that they can't do anything.

I don't see a problem as they mentioned the web site for Movies so viewers could find it on 35.4 so that is helpful.
The reply stated that "they're not aware why Movies changed stations, and that they still have an agreement with the distributor, and that it could be a number of reasons". Then they mentioned that "Movies is now on another channel". The whole reply is worded in a way that's a bit confusing, and gives me the impression that whoever wrote the reply has no idea what happened.

An appropriate to the point response would have been this...

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately our contract to carry the Movies TV network has ended, and it has been replaced with Rewind TV. Movies has been picked up by another local station and can now be seen there.

Going into in depth detail for those who are unaware, WBNX's contract with Movies was coming to an end (3/27/2025). The new owners of WBNX (Nexstar) declined to renew for another 3 years, and as a result, it was replaced with Nexstar's Rewind TV. Movies ended up moving to WOCV-CD 35.4, which is owned by their parent company Weigel Broadcasting. Weigel also operates H&I (on 55.4) and Start TV (on 55.5), and there is no doubt that they will be eventually dropped by WBNX/Nexstar and picked up by WOCV-CD as well when their contracts end (12/1/2025 & 11/30/2026 respectively). Nexstar generally doesn't deal with the Weigel networks, which also includes MeTV, Dabl, MeTV Toons, Catchy Comedy & Story Television. Buzzr, which is operated by another party, will likely be dropped as well (12/31/2025), though its "new" home will likely be on one of those low power stations (channels 20, 26, 28, 41) that just barely covers Cuyahoga County.

Nobody cares about all that history and their "Fakebook" pages, they just want to watch Movies. People need to do what the page said: rescan their tv which is not that hard!!!!!!!!!!

Welp, gone are the days when you could watch WBNX during severe weather and the most that you would see were banners and perhaps the EAS voice over.

Tornado coverage on FOX 8 is being simulcasted over on WBNX, pre-empting regular programming. I already miss the Winston Broadcasting ownership.

Apparently, Winston did not care about tornado safety (and had no weather department either)!

They currently air Family Feud seven times a day (not a typo).

Yes, and those are old airings of FF on top that as well.

Meanwhile, that vast majority of viewers that are unaware of WBNX now being under Nexstar's ownership probably have no idea why Fox 8's weather coverage is now airing on the station.

If they even care. Viewers don't care about station ownership, duopolies, JSAs, and the like even one tenth of a percent as much as we in the industry do.
