WBNX to be acquired by Nexstar & re-affiliate with the CW in Fall 2025 creating a duopoly with FOX affiliate WJW

Meanwhile, that vast majority of viewers that are unaware of WBNX now being under Nexstar's ownership probably have no idea why Fox 8's weather coverage is now airing on the station.
Honestly, I really don't think it matters. The vast majority of television viewers in general don't really care about what company owns what station, just that they can watch Wheel, Jeopardy! certain network primetime shows and the upcoming NFL game.

And I would hazard a guess that 99% of WBNX's viewers didn't know that a 100-year old preacher owned it prior and that it was in an estate for over three years.

This would be the first that WBNX has had actual news coverage since 1996 when the station was rebroadcasting...surprise!...WJW's 10pm newscast at 11pm during its "ei8ht is News" days.

I doubt that this will ever happen, but could WJW drop the FOX 8 News branding for a universal branding, especially if they decide to move some of their overproduced newscasts over to WBNX? Perhaps a combined Fox 8/CW 55 News branding? Or continue as is and be like WOIO? (Retain the same channel allocation over on their sister station).

You'd be surprised if you read the comments on a station's Facebook page. Nothing yet on WBNX, but give it some time.

Well, neither did I until around 2006.

The lack of anyone complaining on Facebook about this (which itself is not really an indicator of real life) kinda says it all.

That proves my point. The common television viewer is not attuned to this stuff like we are. If we don't know, they certainly won't.

Time to launch NewsNation Cleveland (at x-time / in the Morning)!

No, no, no. If anything, look at St. Louis and how KPLR (Nexstar's CW station) airs supplemental newscasts from KTVI (Nexstar's Fox station). All newscasts on both stations are now branded as "Fox 2 News".

WJW's 4pm and 7pm news moving to WBNX at the same times? Totally believable. Reairing New Day Cleveland in the early afternoon? Sure. Family Feud and Young Sheldon moving to WJW? Yes. But they are most certainly not going to adopt a brand associated with a cable news channel that no one watches.

For the record, WJW starts at 4pm, not 3.

Also, this could finally start 11pm news for WJW if they decide to move their current 11pm syndicated programs over to WBNX.

Does WJW still do cross-promotion for NewsNation? I'd think that, if Daddy Nexstar wants to take the branding national, why not start with a newly-inherited duopoly? Fox 8 News needs a shakeup in its news branding (it's been almost 30 years since they took on Fox, and it's been Fox 8 News for nearly all of that time, short of the couple of months it was "FOX ei8ht IS NEWS" in the transition.

If they bring the NewsNation branding to a local station, they can feed more national stories into the mix, maybe not use the same news scripts from 6pm one day until 5:59pm the next, and maybe bring over some of the cable shows onto the new duopoly to fill airtime.

NewsNation exists solely for cable retransmission revenue. It can't draw any viewers regardless of what they do and is frequently outdrawn by Newsmax by an order of magnitude. Forcing that branding on WJW would be an automatic failure and damage WJW's identity and credibility. Nexstar knows better, or they should know better.

Or maybe try to restimulate the dessicated husk that is broadcast syndication by, instead of airing news, investing in new progra—BAHAHAHA who am I kidding?
and maybe bring over some of the cable shows onto the new duopoly to fill airtime.
There is nothing to be gained by simulcasting Cuomo or On Balance with Leland Vittert on the local end.

I thought that WBNX aired 3 or 4 movies on the weekends looks like Nexstar took late Sun/early Mon movie off, doesn't matter as movies will be taken off in a few months when The CW comes over with the sports. Late night weekends will just be syndication fare and no movies in my opinion.

I saw some syndicated version of NewsNation Sunday morning on WBNX.

Perhaps WUAB could start airing movies again after The CW departs.

That is "The Hill" (named for the political news letter also owned by Nexstar), it is NewsNation's Sunday morning talk show, and it also airs on local Nexstar stations through the day on Sunday.

Up until recently, The Hill aired at 2 a.m. late Sunday/early Monday on WJW, then got recently moved to Nexstar's new toy (TV 55) in a better time slot.

I also wonder how much longer it will be until WBNX is polluted with paid programming, which Winston Broadcasting was very good at keeping off the schedule.
