I have been reading everything that's been posted about BPM and I think its odd that this station does not get the love it deserves. Now, please let me explain myself. I am no fan of Randy Turner. I never liked the man (not too many people do) when I listen to him on the air it makes my stomach turn. I think thats why he uses the name Turner, because he is aware of it.I think the station is really good. I think the music should be focused a little more but that is faulted by no other than the ran man himself. First I find the morning show to be really good, I would go as far as to say probably the best morning show in the hudson valley right now. They are funny, and the interviews they get are really great. They can do a little better when it comes to content but I must admit they are very entertaining. Good job guys. Next JJ carter really sounds good on this station. I think he fits right in. Now we all know JJ is busy on the other Pamal station in the market. But he really does a good job. Then the ran man just ruins it when he comes on with his stupid show. He talks to people like they are stupid and I think thats why I change the station to PDH when he comes on. I actually met old RT once and he was really mean to me in person. I asked him if I could have a station t-shirt and he almost blew up at me saying only people who have an e-mail can have one. To this day I still dont understand what that means. Anyway later that day I met jack and andre from the morning show,they were the complete opposite. They were very nice to me and gave me a t-shirt without talking down to me and asking me for an e-mail. These guys just simply get it. I must say overall I really like WBPM and I will also say I find myself tuning in quit a bit lately. Especially since they are playing more rock based music now. I have always been a PDH fan and I still am. But BPM is really come a long way.Now get rid of Turner and I will never go back to PDH.Until that day I will be a fan of both stations.Any feed back.

I don't know about you guys, but I still believe Mr. Turner deserves congratulations for trying something new and turnnig it into something. I still believe the New Wave listener is a counter-programming move that goes against the Lowest Common Denominator and brings in a large, underserved portion of M/F 35-45s who have some money (Psychographics are important too).

Any goofball PD can program Celine Dion/AC to the Fat SoccerMom demo with a 10,000-50,000w signal and become #1 by default as a "background station" in offices and department stores. It's easy to look good by that measurement. It takes a creative PD to go against the OLD school of PD thought to churn out a generic format to appease a populatoin of dullards who are already trained to listen to no-dynamic MOR-of-today chick music and tires old rock standards wihtout influsion of some energy. These LCD formats and empty suit PDs/Upper Management types are what rendered radio into a non-growth industry.

I have heard his 92.9 at times while in Ulster County and found it to be a refreshing mix of good rock standards and eclecticism. Radio needs to take a step forward to compete rather than keep feeding us the same tripe and have us listen to a "lesser-of-the-evils" station by default.

Again, whether this succeeds or fails, this sounds like a work in progress... This area -- and the industry as a whole -- needs more innovative programmers instead of sycophants. Turner should be congratulated for his efforts here, whether one likes the product or not.
 
i have been reading this board for about 9 years now. and enough is enough. i feel compelled to join this 'format' and add in my own two cents.

wbpm is a good station and randy did a very good job introducing a 'newer' format to the hudson valley. i only say newer because it had yet to be heard here. was it format created just from the mind of randy turner? no way! however, i do believe that he did fine tune it a bit. randy has always been one to enjoy some of those 'off the wall' songs (some of which he calls hits). if you've listened to his programming from pd at oldies, to mix, to cool 94.3, then you would remember some of the songs played. just look at his little saturday night show. i remember, when i used to work for him, one day hearing a song on the air in the studio and hearing some low level popping noises coming out the speakers. at first, i thought that it was a power surge, then i knew exactly what he did! he has always drawn his own lines and then went over them. not always in a bad way. i told him myself after 92.9 got launched to add a little bit more rock. 2 months later i'm hearing def leapord. the public doesn't have much access to the ulster county ratings so a lot of us really don't know what the ratings in ulster really spell. and, of course, the book is always up for personal discussions.

as the infamous scott shannon has said 'the radio station should define the format. not the format define the station.' and this is what randy has done. and done very well, too.

and channelsurfer, i'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with randy. he's really not that bad of a person. can't speak for him as to what happened, but i'm sure that he didn't realize it until afterwards.
 
Let's watch the book, shall we?? Nothing wrong with trying to buck the statis quo, especially when you have managements support....by the sound of the last post, sounds like turner is trying to program the station to his own taste in (so called) music.....it's a no brainer that programming that way is a fast road to disaster...

Not a slap on Randy and the staff

But because of history, signal and locality issues it'll always be tough for them to be anything better than a distant second fiddle to PDH or DST or even KZE unless they do something hugely different and a whole lot better.
 
BPM is an Ulster Co. station and they are doing quite well there. There is room for this station in the market. Jack and Andre are really good, they might be the best morning show in the market. The music isn't quite right, but it's pretty close. They play a ton of popular music that no one else in the area plays. Is that a good thing? I think so. They've found their niche and will be successful.
 
I must admit Jack and Andre really are an awesome morning show.They know how to get people out of bed in the morning, thats for sure. Its weird because I have never heard of another morning show where they are just so real. They dont put on a fake show and say things just because people want to hear it. They are real and thats why I really like the show so much.I would agree with the others here that they are proabably the best show out there right now. They beat WPDH's Morning Show by a long shot. As for Randy Turners rollin home show. I agree with you channelsurfer that guy needs to take some lessons from jack and andre and get some people skills. I dont have a story like that myself, but I heard other people talking about him. Actually I heard from a friend of mine who was at Mahonys in poughkeepsie one night when the station was there, that Randy yelled at someone because they didnt understand how to fill out some kind of contest thing. But I have heard other peoples stories as well. They are never really good. I wonder if he reads this. I dont want to hurt his feelings or anything. I do like his station, and Im sure he had something to do with Jack and Andre comming on board. Im pretty sure he is the PD. If im wrong please let me know. Thank you. I would like to hear more stories about randy though.Got any?
 
Randy's a little full of himself. He's not a bad guy, but dude it's only radio. No point in getting mad at people for filling something out incorrectly. The wrold's not going to end if someone asks for a t-shirt. He does produce a good show on Saturday nights if you like that kind of music. I think he just takes his job a little too seriously. I mean it's not like your saving lives. And I'm not trying to bash him. I think he does read these boards, so maybe if he knows he's taking stuff too seriously and tries to have some fun he might loosen up a little.

I've heard he didn't have any say in the hiring of Jack and Andre. But they really are the best morning show out there and I think that's all them not Turner's doing. I know people who can't pick the station up but stream it so they don't have to listen to the crap morning show on PDH. Jack and Dre carry the station. They're real, they sound liek they genuinely are having fun and you can tell they are really friends. Maybe they will get lucky and get picked up on a bigger station with more coverage.
 
I don't know anything about Randy Turner pesonally, but his on-air persona always talks too much for my taste. Just a lot of slick, wordy, "stereotypical DJ-patter"

And I have to disgree with most of the previous posts here about Jack and Andre. While they are a step up from Coop and Tobin, they still seem to be reaching for that lowest common denominator. Another pair of mindless wanna-be bad boys.

Give me WDST's Gattine and Franz any morning!
 
Well P-town that only goes to show that you really have no taste what so ever in my opinion. I could understand if you said you like Coop and Tobins show better than Jack and Andre which isnt really possible for anyone to like Coop and Tobin better than Jack and Andre.(I'll tell you why in a min.) or maybe even That other guy who has no talent ummmm,oh yea, that Chris Marino guy, by the way Jack and Andre blow him WAY out of the water.Talk about an annoying morning show, they actually sing along with the songs on the air and it is really terrible. But That morning show on DST just makes me want to jump into a pond with a concrete block tied around my ankle. Its so horrible. They seriously sound like a college radio station.Think about it, Dst sounds like a college radio show, Coop and Tobin have no talent and just should not be on the air. Im waiting for the day Coop falls over dead on the air, the way he breathes on the mic alone makes me sick I dont know how anyone can listen to that heavy breathing on the air all morning long. Chris Marino is just a horrible show that only 10 year old kids can understand. He has no talent and relys on interns to do his on-air work. Joe Daily is just so boring it brings tears to your eyes and drewl to your mouth. Mike and KC on WHUD arent really that terrible actually I just hate the music. I never really was a big AC fan and They arent very entertaining. Jack and Andre are still way better.This market changes around from time to time. Someday a morning show will come in that blow Jack and Andre out of the water too but for now I think they hold the title. When that show comes along I will have no problem letting everyone know.
 
Never listened to the morning show, but clarity hit it on the head when he said that turner is full of himself. That to me is what makes the rollin home show unlistenable, and it was that way when it was on CZX. never saw the breakdown in the book as far as who get the most listeners in which time slots. Saw him at a live remote walking around like he was a celebrity, and I wanted him to come over so he could introduce himself so I could say "randy who???"

BTW, Please somebody pull the plug on Coop, tobin, zolzer and the rest of the backslappers on PDH....I won't turn it on until at least 10 when Robyn is on......................put it out of its misery

heres an Idea for ya, Put Jack and Andre on WPDH. It will probably just about sink WBPM and they probably wont be able to recover from that hit for at least a good year or two. They will take alot of p1's away from WSPK too because they used to be on The Woodmans morning show and alot of people like and respect Jack and Andre.And from what I hear, people that listen to WSPK are looking for a new place to go to in the morning. They cant go to Coop and Tobin because they suck more than Chris Marino.But they sure would go over to Jack and Andre. And of course it will put WPDH back on the map and everyone will listen again because Coop and Tobin are gone. If you ask me It only makes sense to put Jack and Andre on WPDH. That will really stir up the Market. Ran Man is going to have a stiff drink when that happens,huh?
 
Hypothetical situation: Coop & Tobin get their walking papers, Jack and Andre get hired by PDH...so who would they get to do mornings on BPM?

Thoughts? Any other hypotheticals?
 
Coop and Tobin can do mornings on BPM. Honestly Im not sure, but I am pretty sure it would be someone who you never heard of before, or maybe a jock looking to break into mornings.
 
I have been comming to this site for a long time but have never posted anything.I have to hand it you guys you have really got a great idea going on here. I love WPDH and hate the morning show. I hate WBPM and love their morning show. I would love to hear Jack and Andre on WPDH. What a stellar Idea.It would be just like the old days on PDH. Super great morning show with talent at the controls. Its been a long time since PDH had any talent at the morning controls.Bring in J&A for mornings on PDH.

I agree, I am a big fan of Jack and Andre and I would love to hear them on WPDH. I feel the same way I, I love PDH and love Jack and Andre. I have to stream them so I can not listen to them in my car. I lsten at work. But YES please put them on PDH. The Electric Morning Show is the best show around, it only makes sense to put them on the best station. Go Jack and Andre.
 
I just want to let everyone know I just e-mailed WPDH. [email protected] I told them to bring in Jack and Andre. I suggest you put the e-mail out to them as well. I just hope jack and andre dont read this and get mad that I e-mailed wpdh. ::)
