WBPM AND WPDH

I would have to agree with the posts about Jack and Andre. If you listen to the Electric Morning Show, they don’t spew a bunch of meaningless talk that goes on forever and never arrives at a destination. It’s nice to see that their quick wit and talent followed them from the Woodman In The Morning Show. But then again, talent and quick wit is not something that is taught, it’s a natural ability. Nobody can take credit for that except Jack and Andre. Way to go guys! I also agree that the only thing missing right now for the Electric Morning Show is a bigger station. WPDH could benefit from the hire of Jack and Andre. They could possibly repair the damage to PDH that has been done by Cooper and Tobin. So my message to PDH is this…”Hey Benfer! Wake up and smell the ratings! Hire these two guys already! WPDH CAN be a powerhouse once again!”

What all of you are saying about the morning show on both stations makes sense... If also sounds like WBPM's PD would be able to find good talent to run its morning show should Jack and Andre wind up leaving the station for a larger venue.

This might wind up working out for all parties involved.

Something tells me it wouldn't be Randy who makes that decision as I don't think he had much say in the hiring of Jack and Andre.

He certainly can't do a morning show especially alone. Only time will tell. We're all speculating anyway.

I was just wondering, how many people would like to see jack and andre go to a radio station where we can actually hear them ALL the way to work. I myself along with the others here who have replied, would like to see them on WPDH.My question is Who else would like to see that happen. Maybe we can put together a petition or something. I just want to listen to the best morning show on the best radio station, and know wherever I go they will be there on my car radio. I dont ask for much. Please reply to this. Let me know I am not alone here guys.

I found something for those of you who have not heard Jack and Andre yet. I went to their website www.wbpm929.com and clicked on the electric morning show their I found this myspace page on the website. www.myspace.com/jackanddre
it has alot of fun stuff there. You dont have to be a myspace member to see it.Even though I am not wild about myspace.I hope I dont sound like a crazed fan here talking about all this stuff. :)

Hey radiomaster! Great idea posting Jack and Andre's links up here! I personally don't think you're a crazed fan. I think you're just like the rest of us. You're sick and tired of morning radio in the Hudson Valley. Then all of the sudden, a GREAT morning show (The Electric Morning Show) comes into the game. But something is missing...more wattage! All Jack and Andre need is WPDH's studio to totally revive morning radio in the valley. To some this might sound like a stretch, but it's not! These guys are so talented! They have fantastic guests, they are hilarious and they totally rock the music! This morning show has the absolute best balance of everything hands down! I'm just waiting for Cooper and Tobin to totally implode. That's when Benfer will realize that he's been squandering Cumulus' money on a pathetic excuse for a morning show. I'm also sending an email to Benfer. Maybe one day it will be The Electric Morning Show on 101.5 WPDH...we can only hope!

Hey baby maybe Coop can fill the morning spot on BPM. How funny would it be to see Turner try to 'mold' him. Turner's head would explode! LOL

Turner "molding" Coop??? LMAO! Do you really think that Randy Turner has anything to do with the way Jack and Andre sound on the air?? I seriously doubt it! I remember J&A from the Woodman in the morning show, they were funny and talented then and they still are! These two guys are just the same! Randy probably has something to do with the structure of the formatics...but that's it! "Molding" Jack and Andre? Sorry Ran Man you're about 10 - 15 years too late too take that credit! These guys were already molded and polished when you had the pleasure of meeting them! J&A - A1 Radio Pros!

THE only thing worse would be Turner taking morning drive himself....talk about morning sickness, heck he would even be worse than Van Ritshie....talk about bad HV morning drive..... :-\

warm590 ;D

Warm 590, I was about to make a joke about what an awesome on-air team Turner and Ritshie would make ("Waking Up with The Ran-Man and The Van-Man") but then I realized, you'd never fit both egos in one studio.

hahahah.Thats really funny p-town, dont you have to be good in order to have an ego though. Randy Turner sucks on the air. and from what I hear he is a terrible Program Director 2.I bet if Jack and Andre went to WPDH (which I hear really might happen. I heard through the grape vine Management is really considering bringing them on board.I bet Jack and Andre will get a phone call this month sometime)Randy would take over mornings.Randy doing mornings on BPM would sink that whole station.I'm willing to bet he doesnt know the first thing about doing a morning show.Nobody would listen.Everyone would follow Jack and Andre over to WPDH. ahhhh, WPDH would once again be untouchable. I can see it all now.Pamal might as well just shut down the station at that point. With randy at the controls it will sink. And I hope what they say is true, the captain always goes down with the ship.Goodbye RT.Hope you can swim.
what do you think warm?

The managers of this board should change the name from Hudson Valley to “Trash Randy Turner” based on the way you’ve all been behaving here which is pretty pathetic….and I don’t care if you’re in radio or not. Most of you aren’t in radio either by choice for financial reasons or because you just can’t get a job at any station.

I cannot believe the resentment and animosity displayed on this board toward Randy Turner. It’s very clear that none of you who cut him down daily on this board know the guy or have ever worked with / for him and you have no idea what you’re talking about.
Additionally, it’s incredible how much time and energy you all focus on a small fringe-market station.

I don’t think the negativity would bother me - and other people I know who read this board - so much if we knew exactly what Randy Turner ever did to all of you to make you so bitter and angry. In my opinion, if you’re not going to fully disclose what gripe you have with someone, then you really don’t have any right to talk trash about them on this board. (Especially true for warm590, the president of the Randy Turner Haters Club). Let’s see if any of you are brave enough to set us all straight so we can better understand your opinions.

I do know Randy … I’ve worked with Randy and still do work on special projects with him from time to time … He’s a really smart and talented professional broadcaster. His on-air presentation is strong and ‘old school’ which makes him unique because no one presents radio like he does anymore. Plus, he’s really strong and talented at audio production.

Now , if YOU don’t like his on-air style … if YOU don’t like the way he presents his station’s format … If YOU don’t like his station’s format in general … then don’t listen to it.

So many of you are counting the days to the middle of July when the Spring ratings come out to see if WBPM gains any ground on WPDH. Well, what, exactly, are you going to evaluate their success based on? The completely absurd 12+ ratings? Then all of you who claim to be such “experts” on radio really need to find a different hobby because you know nothing about radio and evaluating a station’s success. Only ¼ of WBPM’s signal covers the rated portion of the Dutchess County survey area and the WBPM signal doesn’t reach the most important part of Dutchess, the southern half! That’s where Arbitron puts most of their diaries. You’re all so smart but clearly you don’t know that, do you? WBPM won’t ever be able to score big market dominating ratings based on its geography. This shouldn’t be hard for you all to understand. And have you ever considered that ½ of WBPM’s coverage area is Columbia and Greene counties which is part of the Albany market. WBPM can be heard all the way up the Thruway to the Albany Toll Booths! So WBPM will always have audience that can’t be ‘seen’ in the Dutchess book. There’s a lot more to a station’s success than the 12+ ratings, fellas, and that’s what I call TUNNEL VISION.

In fact, it’s really clear to me that almost everyone on this board (except for Lando Griffin and maybe one other person) suffer from an extreme case of Tunnel Vision. So many of you complain about the format that was developed for WBPM because you can’t understand the design. Well, let’s start here: The format was **not** exclusively Randy Turner’s creation. It was a collaborative project with Randy and the GM and the suits up at the corporate office in Albany. You’re all fools if you think otherwise. Furthermore, times have changed along with people’s taste and acceptance of music. Many people are walking around with Madonna and Led Zepplin in their Ipods. If that’s how they’re programming their personal music, then radio needs to adapt because that’s what’s acceptable to their target audience. WBPM is doing a great job of delivering a new kind of ‘oldies’ variety with a tight and energetic delivery. Again, if you’ve got Tunnel Vision and can’t accept hearing Zeppelin, Floyd, ZZ Top and other great rock groups along side Chicago, Hall and Oates, Fleetwood Mac, Journey and other pop groups, then you’ll never understand what they’re doing.

The bottom line is that their audience is really enthusiastic about the station and WBPM is the #1 at work radio station in Ulster and Northern Dutchess counties. I’ve seen the Arbitron database and it’s true so stop whining about the 12+ numbers.

So … are you Randy-haters going to tell the truth and let us all know what horrible things Randy has done to you to justify your negativity? I’d really like to know.

Randy’s not the bad guy you all claim he is. In fact, he’s probably the hardest working PD/MD/OnAir Talent and Production Director I know. He isn’t an ego-maniac – he’s a really level headed guy. Again, if any of you really know Randy, then you know his feeling about this message board. He’s often said if the people who post on this board think they can do so much better, then they should apply for his job and take it away from him. Much like voting in elections - if you’re not going to do something, then you’re in no position to complain about it.

I have to agree to an extent with what warmdisney929 is saying. This thread was originally about Jack and Andre and seems to have gone into a tirade against Randy. Now I only know Randy casually and when he's not talking radio, he's a really nice guy who means well. Just seems like he takes his job seriously...maybe a little too seriously. To the point where he alienates himself from others. I have witnessed some of the behavior that others have spoken about. Now I have no idea who 'warm' is or how he knows Randy but if you look at his posts he clearly has something against the guy. So his opinion should really just be dismissed.

Randy, if you read these boards, maybe you can see what some people's perception of what you call hard-working is...it comes off arrogant and egotistical. I'm just trying to give the other perspective. When you are overheard saying this is 'your radio station' or 'your morning show' in fact it really isn't. It's a radio station that YOU work for and a morning show that does a great job, but they don't belong to 'you' unless you are now an owner of Pamal. Again, I am not trying to add fuel to the fire, but trying to point out why maybe he/you have rubbed so many people the wrong way.  :)

Now back to Jack and Andre...they are a great combination of rebels, comics, fools and just funny guys. They will do well whether they are on BPM or elsewhere. Personally I'd like to see them stay at Pamal, but that's just my opinion.

My hat goes off to ALL the hard-working staff at BPM...Jack, Andre, JJ and Randy. They all pulled together and make the station something different.

Randy, if you read these boards,

He does read these messages boards...matter of fact he's logged in as warmdisney929, good work everyone in pissing this poor guy off

"...matter of fact he's logged in as warmdisney929"

I guess Randy realized everybody saw through his old HV4everandever "disguise." But the resemblance between his old and new alter-egos (as well as Turner's on-air style) is unmistakable: long, wordy, overwrought defenses of the poor, picked-upon Ran-man.

Well, Randy, sure is good of you to weigh in. I do not hate you. I have and do work in local radio. I wanted to send you an air check when you were at sleazy-x and you gave me an attitude when I did get your friggin highness on the phone. Eg0. Your loss...What I speak here is my opinion. Let's let the book do the talking. One thing I learned when I was learning the ropes (at 98FaMe), was to check the ego at the door. Nobody in this market is good enough to justify a big ego. If you were Dan Ingram, maybe. And you aren't. I'm sure you work hard. Thing is, I'm not the only one to voice his opinion, and although nobody knows me, and wouldn't even if I mentioned my name, others seem to have a similar opinion.

Do you want one less poster on this board?? We don't have enough now. Take the opinions and use them if you want. I'm not going anywhere unless the moderator shuts me down and that would be one less.

Fire away, sure do hope I get a diary......

The one thing you learn in this business is that you've gotta let things slide. No need to be bitter...certainly seems that
ego or not, you two weren't going to get along, so it was probably a good move not to hire you.
In any event, if you want to bash him because you think his station sucks...go for it,
but if its because he wasnt nice to you on the phone, let it go.
BTW, Dan Ingram is very approachable and really has very little ego when it comes to dealing with folks. He'd treat the night guy from Fayetteville just as respectfully as he'd treat the morning guy across town. He realizes he has nothing to prove to either one of them, so he doesnt try.

Hey guy,s was in radio for manny years worked for and with alot of good people in H.v.RADIO ( Van R. BOB MILLER, RON LION, PAM B, STU, BOB DATON, COZ BRU, ect. . STATIONS like( 98 fame k-104 pdh kip eok ) They were all good at some time . Wbpm is a very good station . but it is not a new idea. let's take the top 800 rock song's of all time ,drop out all medel , add some pop-rock and call it WBPM . It was done in 80,s by Doubleday at all there stations rock 40 format ( WAPP ,WAVA. WLLZ .KPKE. ECT ). we need more stations that are willing too take a chanch. Radio was fun at one time . (I miss fun radio) Yes does randy need to back down a -little . yes If i was to tell him one-thing it would be what (COZ BRUCE ) told me , Talk too me not at me , and have fun . And just so you guy,s no I was one of the one's that would of done this for free. ( and sometimes did ) . And would again .

I agree with you Powergold. You point is well taken.
My only disagreement is that WBPM resembles WAPP, WLLZ, KPKE, or even WAVA in anyway, shape or form. Those were very contemporary rock radio stations...done in a very Top 40 style. They had much more in common with Pirate radio than what WBPM is doing.Like it or not, WBPM is a "lite" classic rock station. Essentially, it sounds like PDH with some female appeal groups, swapped for some of the straight ahead classic core rock. Don't know if thats what the design is, but thats how it appears. I think the new wave edge is totally out of place. Seems as though very little audience is shared between Men At Work fans and Allman Brothers fans....but thats cool...go for it.
