WBRF-FM 98.1 to be all Oldies "Great 98" by October?????

I have few questions for GoodTimesGreatOldies....

Do you want to work at an Oldies station, want to listen to an oldies station, or do you just like creating topics on radioinfo?

If you were that desperate for oldies stations why don't you just use this wonderful thing called the internet and listen to an online oldies station?

Clearly WBRF isn't going oldies and in the past you've said practically every station is going oldies when none of them are.

What's the dealio?

Speaking for myself (not the OP): Because the sound quality sucks on the "wonderful thing" known as internet radio. And it doesn't have dynamic range compression to give the old music a nice full, rich sound. I love listening to old music with a tiny bit of dynamic range compression because it gives the music a nice "punch" that isn't there otherwise. Of course, too much compression is worse than none at all.

Plus I mostly listen to radio in the car. Is there Internet radio for cars? How much does it cost? I know a couple of stations I'd enjoy listening to online. At home I never hooked up the sound but I have the slowest speed that isn't dial-up and don't really want to pay more.

GoodTimesGreatOldies, don't take away the WBRF that I've recently discovered which plays good music during middays!

Ask Tom Collins!!!!! He is taking that damn WBRF-FM Oldies sometime in the fall! Bank on it. it is a DONE deal!!! He has been given the green light!

"The Great 98" is already being used by WTRG FM 97.9 in Roanoke Rapids NC http://www.thegreat98fm.com/

The old WEVD-FM in New York, a mostly brokered talk station at 97.9 FM, used to call themselves "The Great 98." After a frequency change, they ended up on 1050 AM, and then started calling themselves "New York's Greater 1050." (As if they really had that much of a legacy on the FM side to begin with... Anyway, they're gone now... no "great" loss...)

Or from "Ramblin' Man" to "Ramblin' Man". Actually, the Allman Brothers one could pass for country.

Okay, I just checked Wikipedia. The Waylon Jennings song is called "I'm a Ramblin' Man".

Actually there may be some truth in all this... a couple of weeks ago I was in Southwest Virginia and was listening to WBRF on a Saturday afternoon... they have an oldies beach music show, "On the Air with Charlie Brown..." Was a pretty darned good show...

Let's set the record straight. Tom Collins was NOT responsible for the initial success of Majic 94.1. If anything, he was a major part of the problem and kept throwing the proverbial monkey wrenches into the product. Naturally, being the ego-maniac that he is, he will take credit for all of the success and leave little (if any) credit to the person(s) that made the station a ratings winner. Judging by the performance of Majic 94.1 during it's last year when he was programming the station AND being GM, any new ventures he may be involved in with this format are best left to the people that KNOW what they're doing! He's absolutely clueless!

;D  Yeah but he can sure tell some convincing tales!  Bad part, he started believing them!.

Well said Mediawatch 22!

He's a legend in his own mind! But reality is he's a has-been that has still managed to pull the wool over someone's eyes. He takes advantage of the gullible, naive, and uninformed. He also has a paranoia that can wind up being a cancer in the station....a control freak who spys and conives. A suck-up who knows how to exploit those who he allows to think are in power. Really, nothing that is said about TC can be too exaggerated. Ask me how I really feel.

Don't hold back! Seriously, you are absolutely right! One other thing, he's disrespectful to his people, A very bad trait in a manager.

Once again, I had a chance to listen to WBRF, and once I again I enjoyed it. And from 3:30 to 4 on the day I listened, all good country music ... well, except for Marie Osmond, but that one was old. No new garbage.

And bluegrass after 6!

And they had a great commercial for the fair with funny animal noises.
