The way WBRU sounds over the air has always been an issue for me. Being in Boston now, I don't get to listen to them very often anymore, but when I come back to RI to visit, the hour or two I may listen to WBRU usually has some gaff in it. Last weekend, they introed a song, and about 30 seconds into the song the song just stopped and a few seconds later started over again. Introing songs has always been an issue too as many of the jocks tend to keep the intro to the songs very low--basically inaudible--until they stop talking and fade the song up--usually abruptly--once the words start, if they even stop talking once the singing starts. I love WBRU, but I think the students running the station need to take it a little more seriously. They're running at almost a full-strength 50 KW, although once they move the transmitter to Johnston next year, they WILL be running at a full 50 KW equivalent.
I do like the musical direction the station has taken lately, getting away from the more mainstream ****-rock stuff like Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd and playing better alty bands like MGMT, the Kooks and Kings of Leon.
