(WGIV) even went so far as to call for Raycom to fire Steve Crump from WBTV as the first order of business when they take over.

What timing for WGIV to give publicity to WBT on the air!

And what a circus the whole Mackey debacle is. Hopefully soon he will hide his head in shame and we will never hear of him again.
What a ridiculous mess! Anyone who has been around this town awhile, or grew up here as I did, knows just how highly regarded and respected Steve Crump is in both the white and black communities. It's just another case of the uninformed among us attacking the messenger because he brings an uncomfortable truth to light.

Steve Crump is an Excellent Reporter! The last seven words of this post is why he is an excellent reporter. Some of his award winning documentaries also prove his respect. He is a throwback to when WBTV use to compete with WRAL for best newscasts in NC. I think WGHP is now 2nd, and WBTV is way down the list.

There are a large number of people who really don't want to be informed anymore. They just want news they agree with.

I have used the "head of the messenger" line a lot lately.

People I have had the pleasure to know in news always wanted to get the story correct and on the air fast, without bias. After all their personal reputation is something of value.

The only way they might get into trouble could be failing to check all the facts before going with something or at times additional facts come to light later. This is done in an effort to beat the competition and not to slant the news.

My favorite story is the sales manager of a station I worked for went into the news director one morning and said something about the bad economic news he was reporting being bad for business or whatever. I saw the note that went to the GM saying do not try to manage the news and keep that clown out of the news department or I'm leaving! I loved that!

The only good news reports left on the radio are on 90.7 WFAE.

If I really want to fall asleep I put my radio on Jazz 88.9 WNSC. I'm being serious.
