Re: WBUD to go all sports Monday - End Of Mainstream Music on AM
WBUD is now running announcements by PD Eric Johnson that WBUD will become Fox Sports 1260 on Monday the 14th at noon due to 'increased demand' for sports talk radio (by the sales department?), and they thank the loyal listeners for their support over the years. The Sunday morning Sinatra show with Jack Pinto continues (wow, he's survived a long time there, although he left to do mornings at WBUX in Doylestown, Pa. for a time in the '80's and was the board op for the syndicated "Brooke & Roberta" show when WBUD ran it on tape delay). This is the last AM station I can pick up close to the old 'standard' AM station with news on the hour and 'adult' music around the clock that the dial was full of until a few years back (of course minus the personalities it had years ago before they were VT'ed then eliminated). WBUD changed the name of the format several times since this current music format started after the time as NBC-NIS and the simulcast of Kix 101 and a half but it was usually a mix of soft oldies and standards that made the pop charts in the '60's & -70's. Now any music left on AM is mixed in with talk shows and infomercials unless kiddy, Christian or foreign language formats.
