All HD broadcasts are delayed several seconds (usually around 7-8 seconds) and this in addition to any profanity delays, STL, etc. And yes the Analog is then delayed again usually at the transmitter site to match back up with the HD signal so that folks radios can blend back and forth between the two signals as they drive or march around in the fringe HD areas.
The HD side has a minimum encoding/decoding delay of roughly 7-8 seconds, that's true. But broadcasters are allowed to shut off the delay on the analog side of things (to synchronize the analog and digital delays) for live sports broadcasts, typically referred to as "ballgame mode".
That said, precious little radio is truly in real time these days. If there's ISDN, there's a quarter-second of delay there, for example. Satellite uplink/downlinks add 0.75 to 2 seconds. And more relevant is the profanity delay, which most (not all) but most broadcasters will insist on for anything live, no matter how small the risk. That delay can be anywhere from seven to 90 seconds.
why doesn't entercom make an all Redsox channel?? maybe all there interviews and classic games can play over there, and during games have a live cut in in case your not on the hd-1 or make it internet only!!
Because Boston already has NESN. :
