WBZB back to WBON

The way I hear it you won't understand much on 98.5 soon enough LOL

does this deal affect LIR and DRE? what's going on?

It don't think it will affect those two stations. The deal for BTR to buy LIR and DRE never closed. And now it looks as the deal to buy 98.5 fell through. In a press release about closing on a deal in Pittsburgh BTR says it owns stations in Boston, Vegas, and Stamford. No mention of a station on Long Island. http://www.businesstalkradio.net/news.shtml#1189144859

Maybe BTR will go back to LMAing WLIE. The deal for them to sell WLIE to Principle Broadcasting never closed. Plus the guy who was head of Principle Broadcasting was mysteriously found dead a few months ago.

I noticed that 98.5 had similar "cool" audio processing as Party 105.3, and it's from the same tower as 105.3, the SBA tower in Manorville. My guess is that 98.5 The Bone is coming back.

I guess as long as the meathead that was running it before, is no longer involved, the station might actually have a chance.

Geodon, a little sour grapes have we??

Even if the bone does come back, will it make an impact on the rock radio scene on the island? ??? ???

Hey Starcastle,
I had the displeasure of working for that company. The on-air people that worked there were all good guys/gals. It was management that was corrupt and screwed their employees. I have sour grapes for that guy, who shall remain nameless.
I think the bone would impact rock and roll radio on LI, because they played songs and artists that the other Island stations did not and still won't. BAB plays the same songs over and over...no real variety...but they have the biggest signal so thats why they are "#1". RCN has expanded their playlist to try and lure back many listeners that defected to the bone when they were around. Now mind you, they still play artists that you hear on WALK, but they have at least tried to get a bit heavier.
If the bone was to resurface, I believe that a large number of listeners would be tuning them in. Many people complained when the bone went belly-up, so to speak. A majority of those people, that I have talked to, went with satellite radio due to the lack of hard rock here on LI. I know that their signal was also not that great, but those who listened, loved it.
That is my 2 cents...for what it's worth.

Just formatics....

look for a new "flavor"

could the moreys be associated with spanish radio, AGAIN?!?!?!?!

Lets see...

Not a bad idea, considering there are no Spanish FMs on the east end.

HOWEVER, I would suggest putting "La Nueva Fiesta" on 107.1, and moving WLIR to 98.5.

I was listening to 98.5 and 105.3 on the way into work this morning, and was able to get both in clearly until about LIE Exit 52.
107.1, however, doesn't make it past Exit 65.

IIRC, before 92.7 was sold, WLIR was simulcast on 98.5.

I know the maps on Radio-Locator are "for entertainment purposes only", it looks like

98.5's main signal area (the red circle) is similar to the main signal area of AM 1580 (the red circle).

98.5: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WBON&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

1580: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WLIM&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

I think we're gonna say Adios to Radio Formula on AM 1580. Since the station is still owned by PolNet I'd predict that they go back to simulcasting WRKL.

For now Party 105 is simulcasting on 98.5! I think the Bone is coming back, just go past the studios on Vets highway and you see the Bone truck parked out front.

As the norm, islandxer is wrong again! 1. The Bone truck never left the parking lot during the whole sale/no sale. 2. Read the daily news article from tuesday and check out what is going on from the horses mouth (vic latino). Tropical, tropical, tropical. The Bone is dead.

George:

Let it go! I did! Life is too short. You are in a better place now and so are the rest of the people that you mentioned.
