WBZO no more?

They want those call letters because they will be called the WOLF. Chances are they have a mascot already, t-shirts, and god I hope some staff. MAXX FM was jockless for at least the past year, they let Jim go last I think, although they still use his voice on the air on spots. Country failed on 943 years ago and hasn't been seen in that part of the island since, so perhaps this will be a welcome change for those who missed their country. They must be happy at 1023!

The last songs Max played were:
The Final Countdown - Europe
Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day
Movin' Out - Billy Joel
That's All - Genesis
New Kid In Town - The Eagles

First song on The Wolf:
How Country Feels - Randy Houser

I wonder how long 103.1 The Wolf will last after Audacy flipped New York Country to Rhythmic AC/Classic Urban?
If The Wolf bills well for Long Island, it will last for awhile. Besides, New York City and Nassau-Suffolk are two different markets. Just because Country doesn't bill well in NYC doesn't necessarily mean the same result will occur in Long Island.

When they had Country 943, they were losing money....there are not that many country bars on the island anymore, so the beach clubs might be going country. Does anyone know who the personalities will be or will it be jockless like MAX. I think its funny that they played Good Riddance.....kind of sums up Max FM, they tried and couldn't beat WBAB.

Even Q104.3 was beating Max FM so unless they were happy with being the 3rd ranked Classic Rock station, they had to change. I don't know what other format they could've changed to besides Country. Anyhow, I wish 103.1 The Wolf luck and hope they succeed with the new format.

Alexa Neo is hired for middays at TheWolf. More hires to come...

Now looking for an afternoon host:

So how does everyone like WOLF? Personally I listened to their morning show and wondered what the heck they were talking about, they couldn't be local, there was NOTHING local about it.

It's based in Nashville, so they have a lot more access to the country stars:

Originally the WNSH morning show with Blair Garner wasn't local either.

Big D and Bubba are good guys and good to their stations.

When i was on a station that carried them, we localized the heck out of the show so much that i got asked a few times in public "which one am i, big d or bubba". we had a ton liners... stabs going into breaks, return liners back into songs.... between song liners talking about all kinds of things. A ton of liners mentioned one town in each liner, saying something different about the town... and we gave em the hard to pronounce ones like Dubois and Daguscahonda (wed record a pronouncer file) every morning thered be at least one liner in the 6 and 7am hour voiced by big d or bubba that did a real quick 10 second weather mention. They introduce my boss, the PD who did the AM drive news.. sometimes theyd mention a news story in a liner.

When we gave tours, people would ask where Big D and Bubba are (we gave tours on average of twice a month) and anytime we got asked that in a tour or in public, we were honest and told them "in nashville, tennessee" and they were flabbergasted because they loved them and sounded so local.

You can make Big D & bubba's show sound greatly local if you want to.

Absolutely,
I heard them ask the audience how they were doing, after their first week on The Wolf.
They also aired a call from a listener who expressed appreciation for 103.1 switching to a Country format.
As stations with new formats often do, the Wolf has been gradually broadening its playlist. Nice to hear quite a bit of 90's Country in the mix.

Actually that makes sense, WALK mornings isn't local, and it shows as well, same company, same recipe.

Radio does not need to be local to be good.

No saying is not good, Im saying it shows when they (WALK) try and talk about things happening around the island, you can tell that they are reading and not from the island. NO ONE said it was bad. I like local, which is why a station like WRIV, WBAB, and WLNG will be the stations I turn to, they are all local sounding and in the case of WRIV when I am out there, almost too local.

This is true, I will take great and far away over local and bad.
But when the jock can convey the real time vibes of the market and never forgets that they exist to compliment the music, that's radio at it's finest!

The call letters being so close to Bozo (clown) would lend itself to comedy. I wished that format would have done better nationally. I can only guess there isn't enough "clean" comic material available to avoid too many repeats.

IMHO political talk tends to bring out the worst in normally nice people.
