Good comedy (whether clean or blue) depends on the element of surprise. The comedian says something that you weren't expecting, a choice of words, a turn of phrase, or draws a mental image that's out of left field. You the listener can hear that joke or punch line for the first time and laugh out loud. You'd probably still chuckle on a second hearing. But four or five or ten times? There's nowhere near enough new material for a comedy format, let alone broadcast-clean material. That's really why comedy formats don't work. The call letters being so close to Bozo (clown) would lend itself to comedy. I wished that format would have done better nationally. I can only guess there isn't enough "clean" comic material available to avoid too many repeats.
