WCBS-FM TOP 20 COUNTDOWN-8/17/1970

Maybe that song was an extra, like Mazzei always inserts. But if the chart data your looking at is accurate, then...oops by them!

The saddest part of Mazzei is hearing the songs fade out under him.....very unprofessional.....This is not to mention the fact that he sounds like he is fresh from a broadcasting school. He is being thrown a bone for being there for twenty years. This has nothing to do with talent. He gets his bone and the station pays him minimally.

I think that Jeff Mazzie is a great DJ with a upbeat personality. Let's not forget that it was Jeff Mazzie that keep WCBS-FM alive via HD-2 for two years. So as far as the negatives on Jeff MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!. As far as throwing Jeff a bone for being there for 20 years that is just makes no sense.

I gotta agree with RJJ and stand up for Jeff Mazzei - this guy is NOT a liner card reader, he is someone with a clear knowledge and passion for the music and for WCBS-FM! He has been in the industry MORE than 25 years and sounds as good today as HE ALWAYS HAS!! He is a class act who should be commended on SO MANY levels, particularly in helping to return WCBS-FM to the top status it enjoys today - ROCK ON, JEFF!!

Andrea :) :) :)

I got to interview Cousin Brucie for Rock! during the period that "Ohio" was a hit, and had some face time with Rick Sklar that same day, when I was about to graduate from high school(go,Sachem!),and I was very verbal in dealing with the banned records, including "Ohio","The Ballad Of John And Yoko", and later, "My Ding A Ling" by Chuck Berry,"Walk On The Wild Side" by Lou Reed,,and............ "Kiss You All Over" by Exile!!!! which they resisted until they had no choice(believe it or not, the TITLE was considered scandalous at the time....not to mention the (physical)stuggle to get "Space Oddity" by Bowie played because of the pereception of Bowie's gender status at the time....what a story that is

For RADIOTRUTH, if it's post 1972..it's garbage, not worth a darn, that includes DJ's! Jeff Mazzei and all DJ's have their own style of delivery. That's what seperates them, from the "fresh out of broadcasting school" types. Andreajesus is right..CBS-FM is in top status..a huge playlist & great specialties, thanks to Mazzei and the others at WCBS. :)
KEEP UP THE MEMORIES!

Be seriousJeff Mazzei was hired by Joe Mccoy to be a music librarian, not a disc jockey. Over the last 25 years, he has been on-the-air minimally but, he does run a mean computer. In that grand tradition, his voice is still on a computer and it is even not done well because the songs fade out. If he had any real value to the station as a dj, he would be on live and would be getting union scale rather than sloppily recording his voice into a computer. GOTTA THINK IT'S PRETTY SAD FOR MAZZEI AND CHEAP FOR CBS-FM

Radio Truth unless you are a union rep or you are cutting the checks at WCBS-FM I don't think that you should be making any assumptions on Jeff Mazzie's weekly earnings or status. The reason he has had very little air time over the years is because look who he worked with as far as DJ's, Harry Harrison,Cousin Brucie,Bob Shannon,Don K. Reed,Bobby Jay,Dan Ingram,Bill Brown,Ron Lundy just to name a few. When you think about it it's kindda hard to get air time with these greats at the helm who have had way many more years in the business with much more of a following than Jeff. As far as Jeff being a "music librarian" I would think he would have much more knowlege on the music being that he is handling all the records/cds in the library.

P.S
I'm not discreditting all the other wonderful DJ's they are all extremly talented.

I have to agree with Andrea and RJJ. I am tired on Sunday nights, but I feel I am missing something if I don't listen to Jeff's countdown show. I commend him for the great job he does - he makes me want to listen to his show. Keep up the good work Jeff!

I would like to thank you for this post. You make it SOOOOOOOO easy. If Jeff Mazzei, who was not initially hired to be a dj and was not ever a dj because CBS-FM had the former WABC jocks Dan Ingram, Ron Lundy and Harry Harrison, then doesn't that tell you that the current crop of CBS-FM djs are the worst and lowest paid since the inception of CBS-FM as an oldies station. You had already stated that the reason he wasn't on as a dj was because they had superior talent. He is on-the-air currently, if you consider automation being on-the-air, because of the current inferior talent at the station now. He is not that much worse than the other bodies who occupy the present CBS-FM airwaves. He is being thrown a bone for being a good trooper for 25 years and it saves the station money to run automated so they don't have to pay him AFTRA scale. This is just another indication that this is the worst staff at CBS-FM since 1972. THE CURRENT STAFF AT CBS-FM IS MORE LIKE A STAPH INFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOTTA LOVE IT

I also enjoy listening to Jeff; he sounds like a real person, not the usual'hey now' radio stuff that worked last century, but not so much this century

By the way you are welcome, I'm glad I made your post so easy. I don't think that any assumptions should be made about Mazzie's being a full time DJ none of us know what really is going on, maybe he has other commitments that conflict with WCBS-FMS sheduale. As far as Jeff Mazzie voice tracking I'm pretty sure that is not Jeff's decision if you read the various threads on this board there are a lot of cuts in CBS-RADIO and voice tracking is a way to save money. And as far as the "worst lowest paid crop of DJ's since the inception CBS-FM as an oldies station they can't be doing all that horrible if the came in 4th place with a 4.9% in the arbitrends. Seems to me that you have a problem with WCBS-FM the best solution for you change the dial.

RADIOTRUTH: Like I've said before..try WLNG..they are mainly pre '72. CBS-FM is a very good station, playing almost everything from the 50's thru the 80's. GOTTA LOVE IT MORE! :)

It's not just CBS-FM's music. It's also the djs. Name any time in the history of WCBS-FM, since they have been an oldies station, that the djs were worse than this bunch.

Radio Truth - if you can say what you did, then you obviously do not listen to the station. I, for one, enjoy listening to all the jocks everyday.

Like I said in my previous post how bad can this bunch of DJ's really be, the arbitrends speak for themselves 4.9. And as we all know WCBS-FM fans would be the first to boycot if they felt that this was the worst bunch of DJ's in WCBS-FM's history. To answer your question these DJ's are not the same as the 1972-2005 line-up but they are hardly the worst, you have to understand to get younger demo's which the suits want at CBS-RADIO the had to bring on Joe Causi and Broadway Billy which would naturally make sense being that both came from WKTU-FM with their own following. When all is said and done you can't argu the fact of a 4.9.

Just want to chime in (again, as I think this topic has come up before) in support of Jeff's show. He seems to research the music, he seems to enjoy what he is doing, and is enthusiasm can be heard on the air. His delivery is not slick or polished, but like many, I enjoy this. He connects with the listeners, or at least this one - and I think this is because he is genuine.

There are thousands of shows and podcasts I could listen to online (I'm in LA), and I subscribe to XM as well, so the fact that I choose his countdown each week I hope says something.

Now if he can pull out a few more pre-63 countdowns, I'll like him even more!
