wcbsfm

:) Happy to hear my favorite station wcbsfm 101.1 is back to #1 after 16 years. I have many friends over there and my Congrats to ALL!!! I won't mention Names but they know who they are :) They have become like a Family to me. WAY TO GO GUYS!!! U DESERVE IT!!! Thanks now Lets Rock and Roll!!! :)

Congrats to CBS FM on their win.

That being said, one monthly win in 16 years does not make a dynasty.

They have a long way to go to knock Lite out off the dynasty cloud.

Well I guess this ends the curse of Max Kinkel ;)

Seriously, if you told me we'd be at this point 5 years ago today you would be out of your mind.

Congratulations to WCBS-FM. They sound fantastic.

Good for them.

With 1.3 million less listeners than Lite, those dedicated older folks ramped up the TSL for that win... I still say it's the 25-54 numbers that counts for sales... but a definite congrats on the 6+ glamour shots win, they'll run with that as their moniker or ads or something, cause - it looks mighty good in print.

Ijust read that 'CBS-FM was in the top 5 in the 25-54 demographic.

As exciting as it seems, that number isn't as important as the revenues figure. Even though they're #1 in the city, they rank near Fresh in revenues. Long term, something will need to be done to address that.

Everyone laughed when CBS FM came back and on day one I said they'd eventually hit the #1 spot....look it up...all I have to say is HA!

Number 1 in the market tends to generate revenue.

Not in this case. And for the most part, this format is a laggard in revenues regardless of ratings.

Keep in mind that CBS is probably selling a package of stations, not just one.

I just want to say kudos to WCBS-FM for being #1 in the books beating "Lite-FM" for all these years. Look what other stations in the HV listening area that brought some listeners that CBS-FM has, a simulcast of WVOS-FM at 95.7 when it is on 95.9 in Montecello plays the same thing, and so does WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" up in Hudson who had a crappy signal when it comes through Kingston and Poughkeepsie when it got splattered by WBWZ's "Star 93.3", and of course WBPM, the dreaded station run by Randy Turner playing nothin but classic rock with a few thrown in, but WBPM will get tanked in the ratings in the next Spring ratings book come next month. WBPM is the next big thing to "Jack" when CBS-FM did 5 years ago since it flipped from oldies. WBPM is going to sound a lot like "Q-104.3" and the former WBCN in Boston.

The last time CBS-FM had been #1 back in the fall of 1994 when "Lite-FM" beat CBS-FM , but 16 years later, they did it again!

There only one thing that CBS-FM wants to do is bring back the reverb the way Joe McCoy used to do the sounding echo of the station. The last time CBS-FM did the reverb was back in 2004 when Joe McCoy was let go of the station and turned off it's reverb. I hope CBS-FM needs to bring back that classic reverb from 6 years ago. I would love to hear the reverb on CBS-FM once again.

Will you please stop raining on the parade? Geez you and David G. really have it in for this format.

It's not hard to understand why this music would be #1 in NYC, most of it came from the Brill Building or close by. It's a part of NYC.

I have nothing against "classic hits." It is a perfect PPM format. Its success in Philly, NYC, Phoenix, LA and other markets in the sales demos is well known.

Of course, the fact that I have frequently posted about my involvement with classic hits formats in quite a few major markets seems to have gone unnoticed here...

I have pointed out that "oldies" is a format that is no longer significantly viable, if viable at all, in rated markets as it attracts mostly 60+ listeners, a group with little or no radio advertiser appeal today.

David - KKLZ is No. 1 in Las Vegas (English) over the first four months of 2010 among an actual advertiser demo in 25-54.

I just don't get why stations celebrate 6+. No one buys the demo.

WLTW is still the 25-54 king and a major revenue winner in New York City and no one can take either of those things away.

If New York had an Adult Hits and/or Jammin' Oldies station, this market would have a different complexion to it.

New York Had Both at one time

Adult Hits 101.1 JackFM would have been sucessful if it wasn't at the expense of CBS-FM

Jammin Oldies 105.1 One of the "format of the month" programming at that station at that time
