WCHE Morphing Into WCOJ

And we all know how successful they were at the end...Amen!

Today, Jay, the station owner, announced his departure from the Jay and Randy Show. When questioned on-air by Randy, who was obviously surprised by the announcement, Jay assured his partner that Randy would be back Monday. Then, the station let Randy go at the end of the day.

Nice way to pay back Randy, who has single-handedly kept the station on-the-air for years since the untimely death of David Shur, Jay's brother and co-owner of WCHE. For the record, Randy never took a sick day and only took a couple of vacation days during a 6 year period.

Randy is too talented (great writer and character voices) to be "on the beach" for long. Wouldn't be surprised to hear him on a Philly station in the near future. Good luck, Randy!

From Randy's website www.randydascher.com...

It's official. On Friday March 20th, 2009 at 4:03 PM I was "let go" from WCHE. The new General Manager, Bill Mason, is "taking the station in a different direction". I greatly appreciate everyone's calls and emails offering their condolences.

When you have a guy who held your station together for 5 or so years on a string, and kept those who listened well entertained, and this is the thanks he gets. Wow. I thought only the big corporate radio stations did things like that.

Oh well. Good luck with the "Swap Shop", the birthday anouncements, and Real Estate Corner. Guess thats what College kids like to listen to now.

The transformation is complete. They just added the morning show from WCOJ. The only thing missing is Rob Henson's afternoon show, which was good. Probably no room for it with all the brokered afterrnoon fare.

Since WCOJ went out of business, why copy it almost show for show? Surely, they know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and hoping for a different result...or maybe they don't. There's even a sex show which says the "P" and "V" words more times than Stern did on terrestrial radio. And some Swami doing a show, along with some of the most boring political talk I've ever heard on Monday afternoons. Sad, very sad.

I think the Swap Shop has run its course. It was a very popular show on WCOJ but now sounds like an AARP meeting.

I say they're Spanish religion or dark before the end of the year. Too bad, it could have been a nice resource for Chester County. I heard that many sponsors dropped out after hearing how poorly they treated Randy Dascher, who just about single-handedly kept them on the air for 5 years. To paraphrase their Swami, "Karma is a bitch."
