WCIN Flip to Gospel?

I wish smooth jazz was on fm but i'll take what ever I can get.

I'm guessing that you've missed the fact that Warm 98 has been playing smooth jazz on Saturdays for a loooooong time now?

Good luck with the format flip, Souljah.

Thanks Wylly.

I think he was talkin 24/7 as a format, as opposed to a specialty show. This in particular since WCIN was doing it in the mid day for the past 4 years as a specialty.

Yeah, and the lady who did it was GREAT! I didn't listen to Savannah's show that often because I have three other stations that I flip between at that hour of the day, but whenever I stopped on WCIN she was the epitome of smooth.

I wish there could have been a way to keep her on board since this is the format she's been doing all along anyway. She would have been a perfect fit.

I would have gone with gospel because you could have a>changed the format, yet b> helped keep the history of the station alive, but I wish you luck with the new format.

BTW, I'm available for freelance commercial production. Shall I contact you? ;-)

I'm able to listen to WCIN here in Columbus at night when they forget to switch to night power and during morning drive... They seem to be on the bird 24/7. Any one know if they are going to hire local air talent??

After listening for 2+ weeks, I'm 80% pleased with the format. As Darksoldier remembers me telling him, during the WNOP days: "I don't like vocals". Of course, I know it's just part of the format. What I don't get is how Jones (the satellite provider of the format) et. al., incorporates "soft rock" into "smooth jazz". "Soft Rock" does not equal "Smooth Jazz". Do programmers think "smooth jazz" needs help from "soft rock"?

Thanks for the change Mr. Thomas.

Well, here's the deal on the "Soft Rock" in "Smooth Jazz" et. al., Steely Dan, Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, Kem.... The Smooth Jazz format is also known as NAC (New Age Contemporary). So the format includes a number of Artists and cuts that do not fall into strictly Smooth Jazz (by definition), but the "type" of music that the SJ listener would listen to outside of a "strict" measurment or definition of the genre. These songs are peppered into the rotation to create an listening atmosphere condusive to broader musical taste. You will find that almost all Smooth Jazz stations utilize this approach whether satellite provided, or live and local.

I do remember you telling me that you don't like vocals, but I also remember you as quite the jazz purist overall. I am glad to know that you are 80% pleased...and as for the thank you, I think it is safe for me to say you are welcome.

Does WCIN plan to use local air talent during Morning and Afternoon drive time?

The jury is still out on that one.

Well, Darksoldier,

Since you're already on the payroll, I'd like to hear you again. I'd throw a few $$$ to the station to sponsor you. (Just keep the vocals to a few.....hahahahaha).

I really miss Wilbert on Saturdays. I want him back desperately.

Who now "owns" or "controls" the station? Is it still for sale?

Have the radials been repaired?

Dark Soldier:

I'm really enjoying the music - if you ever get a local show you can play all the Randy Crawford (I don't mind vocals) you want. If you want to sprinkle in a little Sugar (Tyner) and some Red Clay (Hubbard) I won't mind.

I do have a complaint - your web feed can't come fast enough. I have trouble getting a clean signal out here along the Great Miami. So instead of listening to your signal I listen to the same Jones feed from WJZT, Tallahassee off the 'net (I "shortcast" throughout my house with a cheap transmitter hooked up to my computer). But, I'd much rather listen to WCIN, that way I can know & support your advertisers.

Thanks again for bringing Jazz (even tho' this isn't REAL Jazz) back to town.

No, the station is NOT for sale. Vandalized radials are under repair as we speak.
