WCKG-1530, WBIG-1280 and two Chicago area FM translators for sale

The thing to remember is that that highly directional array for W244BQ is not much more than a beefed up FM receiving beam antenna. They would have to increase the input and or "redesign" the antenna or reorient it to change the pattern. I think a surveyor has to be there for the orientation on the DJT tower.

There are also many Class B AMs that have directional antennas that take up quite a bit of land. I don't want to give anybody ideas though. Some that have shut down in smaller markets have sites that sit vacant for years.

One of my marketing professors was talking about "centergy". He said in a town that only has two nightclubs both will do better if located next door to each other than than if one is one of the town and the other is on the opposite side of town. He said folks will go there then make up their mind which nightclub to go to. Some folks will "bar hop" and actually spend more money than just staying in one bar.

Chicago has several 24 /7 market covering stations keeping the "AM Side" of town busy with some folks "station hopping", rather than changing to FM.

IMHO: If you're a Chicago AM and your nighttime signal doesn't reach at least a magic number (my guess is a million) you had better have a really good translator unless you can program to a specific ethic neighborhood.

Well, the same philosophy applies/no longer applies to (abandoned) shopping malls.

We had two Top 40 stations where you had to tune from one end of the dial to the other to switch back and forth. Unlike WLS and WCFL, which were close on the dial. Of course, with presets and digital tuning, that no longer is a problem.
