WDAS - #1 with a runaway lead!

The PPM will take down Das' numbers, but on the other hand 957 will see a very nice increase. I like real ratings, can't wait to finally get them with the PPM.

957 who? Is there such a station here? I never hear anything about it or anyone listening to it. [cue crickets]

One of the only listenable stations in Philly, 1061 can be ok at times but 957 is musically the best Philly has to offer.

It is too bad, I would have loved to have seen Howards REAL numbers with the PPM. As it was, almost everyone of his loyal fans would list listening to the whole show, even on days they heard none of it.

THe PPM will be real, no lies, no heritage factor, no groupie factor, just real listening.

A few months ago someone I think on the other board posted the breakdown numbers, and 95.7 was top 10 (I think 8th) in both the 18-34 and 25-54 demo. So while they might not score the best in the 12+, they're doing pretty ok. Ontop of that, I do here this station (along with OGL, and B101) often in stores. I would say I hear that, and the other 2 I named more then anyother station (altough to be fair, if Power99, and 100.3 the beat didn't split, one of those 2 would be up there as most heard).

While the PPM will be much more accurate Herb, it's still not perfect.

The PPM just picks up an encoded signal while 'attached' to the person carrying it. Just because the PPM is picking up the signal doesn't mean the panel member is 'listening' to the programming. There just isn't a perfect methodology out there to get "real listening", as you call it. For example, you're in the car and your cell phone rings. You turn down the volume low enough so you can have your conversation, but the PPM is still picking up the signal and the data says you were listening when you weren't.

I want to make it clear that I am very happy that the PPM is coming, but I also don't want folks to be under the impression that it's infallable.

I don't think Howard's numbers were as inflated as you'd like people to think they were. He had many books where he was on the North side of a 20-share. Take away the inflation of a handful of die-hard fans that actually get a diary, and you are still looking at absolutely ridiculous numbers that no one else comes close to in a market like Philly.

I would never claim that the PPM will be perfect, but anything is better than the completely flawed diary system we have now. Heritage stations get mentions of listening when the person who was supposed to fill the book out all week, just throws in together on the day he or she is to mail it back. The stations that have been in the market are of top of mind and they get listening that never happened.

Howard's #s were amazing, I take nothing away from him, he is and always will be the best. However, I would like to see what his real numbers were without the inflated listening from his very loyal fans.

Re: WDAS is Counting on Diary Flaws to Maintain Its Position

This is why CC has not encoded for PPM yet. Why should they? They have too much to lose.

Still havn't figured out why Radio One has failed to encode??? It can only help them. Especially if they show a big bounce in cume, which I personally think they would. WRNB shares to much with WDAS to be so weak in cume. My guess is diary keepers are so used to writing down WDAS that WRNB fails to get its fair share of listening credit.

What do you guys think?

It is common knoledge that heritage stations get listening credit when the diary holder is listening to a newer station. The people who fill out the diaries are not taking it seriously, most of the time they fill it out on the last day, just making up their listening times and choices, hertiage stations get credit that they don't deserve. Ever wonder why almost every station has the biggest give aways on Thursday? ::)

The PPM will finally show an accurate measurement for people who can't find anything decent to listen to in this market via button pushing and scanning every 1/5-of a song. Can't wait to see everyone's TSL going up in 6 second increments every 4 minutes. :)

That is not right. People should not lie when they fill out those books

People should not lie, in general.
