WDBK 91.5 off air

Haven't heard them off air in years. Miss the mix of indie rock and college rock. I wonder if since the coronavirus closed all schools that they couldn't keep it on air since the studios are on campus?

Looks like the stream's down too. WDBK's had automation for the past 15 years, and the college locked the students out of the facility on weekends starting in 2007 (politics), so station management knows how to use the automation. I assume the college simply shut the campus down and the station doesn't have the capability to operate remotely. Be on the lookout for an STA.

Camden County College tried to sell the station around 2015, for $150K if I remember correctly. Apparently no takers, but the station got the college to spring for streaming around that time. Since 91.5 is hemmed in by surrounding signals, it can't move anywhere closer to more population. I know there are still a few station advocates on the CCC faculty, so they may hold on to the license through this.

Actually, they tried to sell it for $5,000. WGLS's then engineer Dana Puopolo proposed buying it to give WGLS a better signal for Camden Co. The plan was shut down by management.

Interesting. Between WGLS, WDBK and WBZC, Rowan could've covered most of Gloucester, Salem, Camden and Burlington Counties. The problem with WDBK is that it probably needs a new tower unless they've replaced it in the last 10 years (unlikely given Camden County College's general treatment of WDBK), so that $5K would quickly turn into much more. I guess Rowan isn't in expansion mode when it comes to FM, probably a wise choice today.

It depends who you talk to. The college is looking to spend money on their primary mission. They have a communications school that's pretty big for a state school.

It's hard to point to an online station that has the impact of most FM stations. If you're trying to be professional, it helps to have a professional platform. Not one that anybody can operate from their dorm room.
