WDJO Thursday Morning Announcement

Any idea what this big announcement is that they talked about for 10:00 AM tomorrow? It appears it has to do with "the music they play". Suggestions?

Innnnnnnteresting.

If it were a format change they'd do it at 9am right after Imus, not at 10. Or so I'd think.

April 1st is on a Sunday so it's probably not a stunt for that, either.

Ohh partymarty, where arrreeeeeee yoouuuuuu? ;-)

As in, March 29th at 10 AM?

Yes, that is what they said yesterday evening. "A special announcement at 10:00AM this Thursday for our music lovers by Ted McAlister"

Are the Van Dells returning back to town? (Sorry.....couldn't resist). It would be nice to have a powerhouse concert lineup like GRR had years ago.

I bet it's Beach Boys concert tickets for their show at Riverbend this summer.

I went to the Facebook page and either they have a new one and I'm out of touch or they haven't posted on it in almost a year.

Concert announement makes sense.

Made ya listen!

Hey FRR I see you started this new post, you stated in another post ( WDJO)you quite listening to the station and went back to your iPod, so I guess you got mad at the Ipod because it played a song you did'nt like ? So you do listen to WDJO ? I guess until they play a song you don't like and then I'll bet you go back to that iPod until it plays a song you don't like again, those darned iPods, you just can'y trust'em.

LOL Well, to tell the truth I was on my Harley and had forgotten to get my Ipod out of the car so I had DJO on. I was just about ready to go over to FM when I heard the announcement. It did peak my interest and I thought this may be something real good. So, yes, I did listen at 10:00 AM yesterday until I heard the "big announcement". Yes, I do have a few tunes on the Ipod that are not my favorites, but my girl friend likes them so I leave them on for her. But that Ipod does have one advantage......If the song comes on that I'd rather not hear, I can click to the next one....Seriously though, I try to check the station out every week or so but it seems the listening time is getting shorter and shorter. I even heard "Ricky Don't Loose That Number" this week. Didn't know that would qualify as an "Oldie", but I'm sure the definition is changing. I'm not "in the business", but always loved radio, at least until recently and love to read the posts from you guys that actually know what is going on. I really don't know what I was expecting from their "big announcement" but I guess it was more than a Beach Boys concert. I guess as us "over 60 generation" continues to age we will need to rely more and more on Ipods or Internet since most advertisers figure we are a lost cause anyway.

Which makes little sense to me. I'm a few months shy of 60, but the house is paid off, when I buy a car, I pay cash, no kids to put through college, etc. I should be a prime target for advertising, but am not. Instead, they focus on 25 year olds who are struggling with mountains of debt who frankly can't afford what the advertisers are selling. Is it any wonder the system is broken?

Actually, the "aging" boomer is becoming the big target. Things are shifting. In most cases, you're the second most desired demo just for the fact that you have the disposable income. Usually the aging boomer has 2 houses, travels, has toys....
Bask in the glory of your desired status!

Status mean more to that age group and someone somewhere is generally able to finance their afluenza.

As jry pointed out, there seems to be a shift (and sometimes it's hard to see) that people like you and me can and or do have free money that we can use if something tickles our fancy. But if you're paying cash for cars, you're no longer in the perpetual lease cycle upgrades. You may not be in the market for a home. You're probably done buying sound equipment cause that old Fisher or Marantz still cranks out the tunes. But dining out, personal protection, asset preservation are all things that we are interested in.
