We Need to Shake Things up And Create Some Excitement!! !!!

I've been thinking for a few weeks.. the Phoenix section has gotten pretty stale! This may be a good thing, meaning that things are pretty well for the most part, but you've got to admit it's gotten pretty boring and we need some excitement or something to happen. Some change... some suspense.... something to look forward to and make you think "Could it be... will it be... is it......???" or something. I've heard the saying "Be careful what you wish for...", but still;

Does ANYBODY at all know of anything new and exciting, or different that will or might happen relatively soon? If so, lay it all out here!

Just wanted to take the opportunity to mention a recent change I noticed on the fm dial, and a change that I believe needs to happen. First, I have noticed that Movin 97.5 has some new imaging for the station. It looks like that are trying to phase out their original imaging, although you still hear it a little bit. They have a different guys voice though, and the station just sounds a little more fresh. I've also noticed much more Top 40 songs being played on the station. They are even playing "No Surprise" from Daughtry now. Definately more non rhythmic songs being added to the playlist for a station that has always been for the most part a rhythmic sounding station. Maybe more of a shift to Top 40 is on the way, while they continue to play their old school hits as well. What I think we need to see change is Mix 96.9. Not necessarily a format change, but it wouldn't heard to give this station new imaging. They sound very bland and just an overall non-exciting radio station to listen to. I've also noticed a lot of times when they play one of their sweepers saying "More 90's Now" it's followed up by a song from Pink or The Fray! I'm pretty sure Pink and The Fray are not 90's music! This wasn't just a one time thing either, I've noticed this several times. I don't know if they just don't know their music there, or if they are just not programming their sweepers right. They also need to stop using the sweeper for saying they have "Nine songs in a row back to back" if they are only going to play 4 of them, and then a commercial. Typically the way Mix is, is they play their nine songs in a row from around a quarter till the hour until a quarter after the hour or twenty past. It's at that point where they advertise another 9 songs in a row coming up, but this is when we only get 4 or 5 songs. If your not really going to do it, don't play the sweeper saying you are! I think it just makes the station look really bad. Anyway, those are just a few things I wanted to mention that I have noticed.

I've wondered if any changes would come to MIX 96.9 as well, especially since we're entering a new decade. I was thinking we may see some phase out of the 80's music. There is definitely a lot of 80's music saturation between the Peak, MIX and now KOOL. A similar thing happened about 10 years ago when MIX 96.9 phased out 70's music. Remember when MIX 96.9 was the best of the "80's, 90's and 70's?" Or, better yet, when it was The Eagle? But, to be honest, KMXP would be stupid to mess with the format being that they are the #1 radio station in the valley. That would almost be like KOOL deciding to mess around with their #1 station last year by playing all Christmas music for over two months!  ::)

Zing! PD Kris will love you for that one, asugeo. ;)

It should be noted that WCBS-FM New York has decided no wall-to-wall
Christmas music this year. Maybe a corporate decision for all the CBS
classic hits stations, based on the "Kristmas debacle" at KOOL last year?
We can only hope.

And put even more people out of a job? YIKES!

I might have personal exciting news regarding radio. Not yet.

And the Buckeye Boyz may be ready to confirm the obvious...but maybe they're not! C'mon KOOL Listener Hearer Cumer Lauren, te'll us where you'll soon be heard on the radio or internet dial!

Create some excitement? Does anyone have a direct line to SeeBS? Let's find out when the next mass firing/layoff/plugola suspensions will be. Now THAT should create more excitement. It's only a matter of time. I understand that JJ is giving away free beepers for any on-air mentions. ;)

We could always create a poll to see how many times we think Mac Watson will stutter and trip over himself on K-Goo [K-T'R].

Alternately, a poll to predict how many more times Jim Burgundy will guest host on K-Goo [K-T'R] would be fun. My prediction? He's never leaving the building. K-Goo [K-T'R] can move the studios, but he will find them. No one can stop Jim Burgundy!

How about predicting the next Cheap Channel station to fall victim to the cheapest morning show in history, JonJay and Rich? Yeah, there's a map for that- http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=clear+Channel+radio+stations&sll=38.68551,-96.855469&sspn=44.939275,63.896484&safe=on&ie=UTF8&hq=clear+Channel+radio+stations&hnear=&t=h&z=3&iwloc=lyrftr:lmq:9:clear+Channel+radio+stations,3144082430246086425,34.161818,-118.300781!

I like the new imaging for Movin 97.5, but it doesn't seem to go with the music they play. I listened online (again) last night and with the exception of its imaging, I am just not impressed with this station whatsoever. The night guy seemed a little "corny" and "generic" (don't get me started on his ditzy sidekick) and the music just isn't creative enough. It sounds like a mix of the most played songs you'll hear on Mix, Kiss, Jamz, etc. Does Phoenix really need another station that sounds like the rest? When I hear "Movin", I'd expect to hear a little more upbeat music, maybe a real dance tune or two. Instead, I turned it off.

I actually enjoy listening to Movin 97.5 and rarely, if ever, listen to Kiss, Power or Jamz. Movin 97.5 plays more old school music that I like.

Two moments of excitement from the Buckeye Media Hut:

1) W See BS-FM Noo Yawk sez no pre-mature All Xmas music this year...they'll work it into their normal rotation. Guess that means KOOL PD Kris doesn't have to drive his station off the ratings cliff, too!

2) Nurse Czarina Jeff and I got a Tuesday twofer on 13~Ten around 8am. Caught both KFKA Greeley, Co and KLIX Twin Falls ID at the same time. Both stations and the late KXAM are 5kw non directional daytime and are on MST. YIKES!

3) KT'R poll question of the day...Should cities have dog parks?...stay tuned to 92~Three for more stimulating Toaster Talk!

...and Mega and the Beat play more old school. Therein lies my point.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but every now and then I've gotten up early enough to briefly scan the dial and have noticed quite a few things have changed recently in the mornings... ??? I wonder what's next...??

Saturday night block party is still sounding pretty good on Movin... This is their best feature in my opinion. The music format is ok. Sounds a bit exciting for a while, but then sometimes gets old and you want to take a break

KVIB... I don't listen as "religiously as I used to", but have noticed they've gone more spanish and started to use more of a spanish hits image. If the rumors about them changing are true, I wonder what format will they adopt next? I doubt that whatever it is, it will be top 40 or rhythmic.. and is it possible another station could swap for that position on the dial?

I agree KMXP 96.9 isn't as fun as 98.7 KPKX, but I have to admit 96.9 is more enjoyable than 95.5 KYOT.

Awww :(

Well whatever it is that's going for Lovely Lady Lauren, I wish her the best.

Oh, and lastly, like I've mentioned, I've noticed quite a bit of morning changes... . ..but I must admit that KZON does seem to be hitting you with a large wall of nonstop hits, which... I must say I do like.

I haven't listened to KTAR too much lately, but as far as KFYI, still enjoying The Nearly Famous one and Bill Handel. Coast to Coast, although I still like, has been disappointing me lately with an average of one or two shows a week that intrigue me. Some topics I just don't care for.

Lauren'll get there-sooner that later, I'm bettin'. Since I'm at work by 6:00 am,I can only listen to middle -of- the -road office type stuff like KEZ and KYOT, but they do seem to be jazzing THEM up a bit compared to a few months ago. Barry Young and Bill Handel ARE the bestshows on KFYI, KDM. I'm noticing something interesting on KTAR, Joe Crummey is loosening up A LOT-every other word he says is "man", he makes reference to his pot-smokin' days more, he's added a new "after hours" spot for when "family time" is over. He's almost starting to remind me in some ways of Duke Shirlaw, with a flip of a coin he can be like Roy Rogers or Hunter S. Thompson.

Everyone is invited to the Buckeye Media Hut this weekend to sign our petition asking KFWhyEye never to use Barry Markson when the Nearly Bald One has a hangnail and can't do his 7-10am shift. blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah....even more annoying than our many of our posts on this list! Free bobble head dolls of the Middle Eastern Men of The Media to the first 100 people who show up with a KAZG bumper sticker!

Okay folks, it's time to really get things going on the board. Most of you aren't nearly the visionary that I am and therefore I know that this topic will generate more response than ANYTHING.

On what date will the first 100° day of 2010 occur? By the way, I have dibs on May 11th. DISCUSS!

Paging Ed Phillips...

Nothing is more exciting than weather and coffee! ;D

I'll take sides with the inventor of the internet, Al Gore, and say that global warming brings an early 100 degree day to Phoenix. I claim May 10th. The truth is sometimes an inconvenient thing. ;)

Oh-what he said! Barry Markson may be a good attorney (?), but he talks like he has marbles in his mouth!

I sure hope da Sheriff's depuhdees inspect the marbles in Barry's mouth before he goes to court. We wouldn't want any criminals using those marbles to make an escape!!

Paging Gumpdusky insider catfish (with a "C"): do you have any Lumberyard 1440

from previous stock...KDOT...KOPA...KXAM...even KPOK or KWBY!
