Don't tell Harry. He may be dead, but he'd still be pissed.
Give WECK and its staff credit, whatever the Persons 12+ number might be. That said, one wonders if a full power signal in Buffalo, assessing WECK's performance, might adopt John Sebastian's Wow Factor format which is targeted to 55+. As of now the Wow Factor format is in what might be called Beta Testing on a Phoenix AM and associated translator very similar to WECK's status. A number of industry decision-makers will be evaluating the Wow Factor format's strengths (and weaknesses). If the Phoenix station does well, it could be the next format flavor of the week, especially in graying markets like Buffalo.

The conundrum is that Oldies type formats can get decent ratings, but the demos are deemed too old to be "sellable".
If Radio can solve that riddle, you could see similar formats pop up. The ALT format on 107.7 is an example of the reverse. It's a format aimed at 18-34 year olds and has abysmal ratings. Theoretically, those demos should love it. The evidence says they don't.
The Wow Factor is not exactly "cutting edge" programming. It's just shop worn Oldies/Classic Hits/Pop Hits etc.. with a new slogan. Sebastian doesn't have a patent on these songs. Anyone could implement a format like that if they thought it would improve the bottom line. I doubt that Cumulus, Entercom, or the Ihearts are paying much attention to "Wow"...

The WOW format is not being "beta tested". That's the only station that would take the format...
How can the big corporations be so blind? Sebastian and Shula constantly tell us how "brilliant" they are. They are raking in millions with their Oldies formats while Big Corporate Radio circles the drain. It's so simple. Play the Moldy Oldies, get huge ratings 55+, sell Local Direct, and generate big revenue. Corporate Radio should immediately offer these guys huge contracts...

I specifically used the words "what might be called Beta Testing" which is my stylistic slant, in contrast to your rather pugnacious description, "the only station that would take the format."
As to the signals, my error regarding the format being on an AM; it's not. Taken from Radio Insight, it's on rim shot 95.1 KOAI Sun City West and translator 94.9 K235CB Chandler AZ. The general point was that the format is NOT on a big signal within the market, the specific point being the signals have some similarities to WECK, which as noted in the first sentence of my post, deserves full credit for its accomplishments.
Please stop baiting Buddy. You're trolling.
Sebastian had been talking up the format in the trades for some time, but no station was willing to take the risk involved in doing a hard-to-sell format.
In a perfect world, a new format would launch on a full-market facility so as to be a showcase for the format.
But, as with Sebastian's unsuccessful EOR ("Eclectic Oriented Rock") some time ago, all he got was a rimshot. EOR was on the Globe, AZ, station that tries to rimshot PHX from the east and on another rimshot targeting the Palm Beaches from a stick to the NW of West Palm Beach.
However, the format is on a big signal... just that the signal covers mostly the forests, badlands and sparsely populated areas between Prescott and Phoenix.
The difference here is that the KOAI station owner has a cluster operation. Buddy has a single concept, and all his efforts are in making it work... and Buddy is a "superstar seller" who has developed a name and reputation and relationships in Buffalo over a long period of time. KOAI has none of that.
You clearly are a jealous person. I posted and ATTACHED the ACTUAL Neilson Trend that came out TODAY. I posted this above. If you can open the attachment you will see the UNWEIGHTED quarter hours. This is the raw data. When the September book comes out Monday, you will likely see WECK at about a 3.5, only because of the weighting. Unauthorized data???? I am a freaking Neilson subscriber every month! It's authorized! TBolt, you obviously have no idea what the Neilson methodology means. You make stupid, petty, comments, because that is all you know how to do. Your jealousy could not be more obvious.
I want everyone to remember , WECK is a locally owned 1KW AM. We are beating 50,000 watt FM's backed by Wall Street. It's pretty incredible. Plus, the fun has just started, as you will find out in Q1.
Tbolt, you are washed up rocker who is going no where....who knows nothing..who has nothing........get a life, and when you are ready to have a talk with a successful business person and broadcaster, let me know.
Powers that be (Frank and Dave), KICK this stupid **** off this board. He contributes nothing. You kick me off, and I provide real info, but you let this ******* just pontificate and lend his ridiculous comments that benefit no one.
Meanwhile, WECK will keep kicking radio ass.
Frank- is reprinting proprietary data now permitted? And personal attacks...
They mean Buddy attacked them, not the other way around. So you didn't answer his question.Frank already cautioned (tbolt909) about trolling.
You of all people should know Buffalo is NOT a "large market".
Buddy is a large market owner-operator. Having been there myself, I can say that being protective of one's station is natural for us.
