WECK bringin local back

cee said:
It's cool they'll be broadcasting again from 2900 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga, NY - many of us remember the old WNIA jocks mentioning that famous address during little on air blurbs.
Any plans to spruce it up from the outside? The building looks terrible but I assume some heavy interior work is being done in preparation for the launch.
BTW, in regards to the launch, I thought that was set for this morning? Or is it next Monday?

Hi Keith (world's biggest Phil Spector fan....NOT!):

I thought you guys all knew I was lurking all along :)

Had always planned to keep the board posted on developments. Should have something in the next day or so.

We are working like crazy on the inside, but do have some plans for outside as well. Nothing radical (it'll still be recognizable as the old ranch) but hopefully bring it up to date with what we're doing. I think the building is a landmark, myself.

We did have a "soft" launch planned, but are still getting ready. Stay tuned.

You had a "soft" launch planned? What, health insurance doesn't cover Viagra?

Good luck TS & Co.

Tom,

You know me too well! LOL (world's biggest Phil Spector fan....NOT!)

It really never dawned on me that you might be lurking... didn't think you'd have time. I thought Dick had you repainting the old (new) studio and the reception desk! Nice to see you hanging out here!

It is very cool that the station will be a stand alone in the old building and not downtown in the Rand or in any of the other corporate mega station complexes. That alone should help to promote the 'hometown radio' feel for the staff.

Let the show begin and 'Break a leg!'

Keith

I think I'd work for free to see some local radio be sucessful. I kind of of school so I might need some remedial training.

I wish Dick Greene, Tom Schuh, Harv Moor and Tom Donahue success and the best of luck. A few posters have asked how it is possible for a PD whose background is in music radio could program a news-talk station. I'd only remind them that good PD's can program Oldies, News-Talk, Classic Rock or Country. Tom Schuh certainly has proven himself to be a good PD over the years with Oldies 104. It's likely he'll have WECK well planned and formatically structured.

In time, Harvey M. and Tommy D. could become an entertaining and informative morning team. It would be quite an accomplishment if WECK puts even a two share dent in WBEN, especially in morning drive.

Having heaped praise on the forthcoming venture, there is a question as to WHO will listen to WECK. Certainly, the radio geekazoids that grace this board will have an ear to the station, at least for a while, but a greater concern is the passage of time and potential lack of sales dollars posing big problems for WECK within the first 12 months. I hesitate to say this, but the scepter lingers of WHLD-AM as The Voice of Reason.

Paul Oates is masterful when it comes to handling the quirky Tradio callers on WLVL. WECK might consider simulcasting the show from Lockport. Scott Leffler on WLVL is a small town progressive talker, but he'll be going up against lib-talking Stephanie Miller (ironically, a Lockport native) on WWKB and Tommy Bauerle on WBEN. That's a formidable challenge.

You wonder who, and how many people, will listen to O'Reilly and Hannity on WECK going head to head with the paragon of gasbags, Rush Limbaugh and an equally bombastic Sandy Beach on WBEN.

I guess there's something to be said for David having beaten Goliath.

Dick said it in his interview in the Buffalo Snooze... it's all about 'fun radio'. Damn, it sounds like fun to me... even trying to create real local, hometown radio may be enough fun to last for years.

As to a revenue stream, there are a lot of sponsors out there looking for a ad venue that isn't so opinionated and bombastic. (Does every winter weather forecast on 'BEN have to begin with 'DANGER Will Robinson, DANGER!' After all, it IS winter in WNY! Snow happens. Maybe I should hike it to Convenient Food Mart for bread, milk and a 6-pack of 'Genny'!)

And for those who think 'Tradio' is new to Buffalo radio, we used to do it every weekday morning FOR YEARS on AM 1120, WWOL. I think it was just before race results!

Schuh... when's the launch? (or the soft launch or the Viagra launch?) Some of us 'lurkers' are getting so excited that we CAN get the football through the tire hanging from the backyard tree with no problem!

Patience, my brothers and sisters (are there any female posters on this board?)

We should have word of a launch date in the "very near future." Stay tuned.

Define "rough." That's pretty tame for our crowd...

Good morning:

The sun is shining again, so it's a good day for some news...

We plan on launching on Wednesday, as long as the technical gods cooperate.

And I can confirm that Brad Riter will be hosting a weekday show from 6-9 p.m. I'm thrilled about our launch lineup, and look forward to your comments.

That would explain the "major announcement" he hinted at on his Facebook profile...

Thanks for the confirmation and the launch date, Tom. It'll be good to hear Brad back on the air.

Break a leg!

P.S.: Any chance of a Webcast in your future, or at least a podcast? I know a LOT of people outside Buffalo who would be interested in same...

Actually guys....there are a few of us girls out here who read some of your posts! I am very happy and excited for Tom and for Harv. Harv is the most delightful and creative people i've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Just hearing that he'll be back on the air makes me smile.

Go get em guys....................
