WEDG Big Announcement

Cumulus is obviously trying to fix something...

There's likely more budget for talent at 97 Rock. Revenues at alternative stations (regardless of ratings) are pretty weak across the country. This may be why we're seeing companies such as Audacy nationalize talent at their alternative stations.

Of course, as you've said many times ratings don't guarantee revenue. If things are so swell, there was no need to move The Edge morning show to WGRF. Cumulus is obviously trying to fix something...
According to David, they've got a pretty good audience spread across a pretty wide demographic. Bringing Shredd and Ragan over can expose them to a wider audience and that's not likely to drive away the existing audience that's used to an entertaining morning show. It's also possible that they bring additional audience with them, increasing the overall audience for the station. So, Cumulus strengthens their strongest station.

The only real questions here are whether 97-Rock evolves their music, and what happens on The Edge. Apparently, they have a plan. BTW, I'm still waiting for your plan for these stations that will make them more successful.

Wow. Listened to Shredd & Ragan this morning and had to shut it off after 5 minutes. If Cumulus is targeting the 12 year old demographic, they definitely found it.

Heh, heh, heh... five minutes... you gave 'em a cume and a quarter hour.

Or they found the show matched the other station better and that both would gain with the change.

Huh
And they gave me a headache for an hour. They played some song about cookie monster and the word gaytard was in it. I'm sure that's going to go over well with the new listening audience
Huh? Wait. What? The above thing is (presumably) okie dokie... but the toast thing was horrific??? If the account (above) is accurate, where might the Roswell and West Herr outrage be? I truly hope that the above is inaccurate.

And country. And top 40. And(MAYBE)hot AC.

Shall I go on?

Exactly how does S & R differ from the morning show that was fired? Most people probably cannot tell them apart. The music hasn't "evolved" in any way yet.

If S & R was an asset to The Edge, they lose in the transfer. 97 Rock didn't seem to suffer after firing their high profile morning show, so maybe none of it really matters. If The Edge benefits and 97 Rock drops, then the "Plan" will have backfired. Cumulus clearly is trying to protect WGRF...

It appears that the song has been expunged from the podcast as posted on WGRF's website from this mornings show. Obviously somebody overheard it and decided to remove it.

Wow. Reinforces that Roswell and West Herr are two faced firms. It also reinforces that station management & ownership pick and choose who gets treated with dignity and respect. Finally, it speaks far more about the character of the current "talent" than anything ever did about the prior cast.

Couldn't make this up if I tried. I suspect that some of the local radio execs and DJ's scan certain social media websites to get a general idea of how the listening audience reacts to certain elements of the station.... possibly including this forum as well. It wouldn't surprise me if someone like Carl Russo seen the post and made an internal correction to the audio.

Lake Country Radio called it "some song about cookie monster and the word gaytard was in it," but Google turns up no matches to any known song with those words in the lyrics. Maybe it was an in-house production.
Well I don't know.. I spent over 2 hours trying to find it on Google and YouTube but I couldn't. Keywords were, "Cookie Monster" "Metallica" "Gaytard". Could be a Buffalo thing but there were some other lyrics that I can't remember at the moment that were over the top. And then they wiped it from the audio vault later that day.
