Wee for Wii trial finally begins for Entercom

I, too, am surprised this case hasn't settled, but...

Remember, it takes two parties to cobble a settlement. It may well be that the Plaintiff thinks that he has such a great case, such bad facts against the Defendant, that a jury will give them a bigger bucket of money than Entercom offered prior to trial (assuming Entercom made an offer).

But, Entercom's "foreseeability" argument is going to be a tough sell. Heck, they have discussion from the event in which the principles discussed the Chico death. Wow. Those are really bad facts.

Low-to-middle seven figures, maybe?

DE

Did you read the article correctly or just browse? It said the Chico incident was discussed by the plaintiff, not the defendants.

I was reading the headlines today from the "Major Sacramento Newspaper" stating that the General Manager of this Radio Station did not know what was going on, there are two problems with that statement, first if he didn't know about it he should have been fired on the spot for not knowing and not doing his job.

In the 20 something years I spent in the industry every single General Manager I worked for and respected knew everything that was going on at his Radio Station, I was in shock when I read that.

I agree.

The earlier article in today's "Major Sacramento Newspaper" < http://www.sacbee.com/topstories/story/2216225.html >
misses something that, I find, is important: there was no mention of the KDND air talent involved in the contest.
Does anyone believe that the air talent should have some level of accountability here?

This update from earlier today on the Sacbee website does touch upon the deejays from the perspective of the VP/Marketing Manager:

And he's still employed!

OK, Mr Skinner, since you have spent 35 years in the industry, please explain why you think we have no clue why THIS man shouldn't be nailed to the cross and spend the rest of life behind bars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bkress doesn't have a clue.

Okay now, that comment is rude.

I must say the one thing Geary has going for him is the fact that he has survived and outlived several PDs and formats on the 107.9 frequency. He was already there fir a while when his beloved K-108 got destroyed by Y-92...Then of course came there was the X 107.9 debacle that lasted a few months.

He's a carryover from the brown days and has to be the longest running GM in Sacramento. I think he replaced Phil Melrose around 19-20 years ago.

He must be making budget on a regular basis or he has something on the lawyers that make up Entercom.

OK...DICK...if you know so much, why haven't you posted something with some relevance to the topic OTHER than saying that BKress doesn't have a clue? I've known BKress for almost 25 years I happen to know that he DOES have a clue! If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't be in broadcasting! Luckily for me, he was one of the FEW people back in the day willing to mentor new people in the biz. It's because of HIS example that I try to do the same for new folks that come my way today. What have YOU done to make this a better industry (besides talk trash about others on an industry Forum)?

Well, to begin with, bkress, Geary isn't General Manager he's Market Manager. Weed was Station Manager and was rightfully dismissed for giving the go ahead to the promotion. No Market Manager sits in on every one of his stations' promotions meetings. In that building, Geary lets his managers manage. All the self-righteous accusations of perjury or malfeasance and the calls for Geary's dismissal, imprisonment or execution by crucifixion don't change the fact that he's an honorable man and that that buck stopped with Weed. And, cameron, I don't either of you guys, bu I'm happy that you and bkress are such close buddies; he's mentored you well.

You know, it's easy to talk smack about others when you are not using your real name. IMO opinions carry more weight when you stand behind them.

Having said that....I haven't been in the Entercom building for almost 10 years, so I have no first-hand knowledge of what happened or who did or didn't do what. I did used to work for John geary back in the 108 days, and from my dealings with him he seems like a stand-up guy who is extremely professional and knows what he is doing. I respect him and what he has accomplished.

Frankly I would be shocked if he is found to have been a part of this. I doubt that he is, and as said above, it was Weed's jurisdiction.

When I was a promotions director we had to put everything through the PD first, then the GM, then the legal department. I remember having to rewrite rules for contest sometimes 2 or 3 times because of legal. Even stupid little giveaways.

I'm sure everyone knew, even and especially the market manager.

I know you think you're sure, Clinger (you know what they say about opinions), but it wasn't the policy in that building at the time. It's not a micro-managed operation.
