WEEI/ESPN

If this means the end of Mustard and Johnson, it has to be a good thing. I don't listen to them, but it annoys me that anything that bad can be on the air.

The link did work for me and it did indeed claim that WGFP 940 was the station. Again we don't know how accurate.
Hmm radio-locator says 1000 w day, 4 w night!

Not the biggest ESPN Radio guy you will ever meet, but we seriously need an ESPN affiliate by 2010.

Boston is a big AM market, ESPN ink a deal with someone already! There's a parked website for crying out loud!

The following page lists Red Sox in Spanish on 5 stations, in the cities of Boston, Haverhill, Webster, Bristol CT, and down in RI http://www.redsoxnetwork.com/media/index.shtml (not sure how accurate)

Apparently...not very. Scratch the Providence market's 990 WALE off the Spanish Red Sox list. The station has not carried a Red Sox game in Spanish in YEARS now.

The station's Spanish programming consists entirely of a Saturday and Sunday marathon of various flavors of over-modulated Spanish music, peppered with "dollar-a-hollar" sponsorships from local businesses.

That over-modulated music sounds really weird if you're in their extreme null with the directional phase distortion added to the overmodulation distortion, if you're listening from up in southeastern MA. A truly surreal sound.

Here's the comment I just posted to the Globe's article about WEEI/WBZ-FM ratings:

http://www.boston.com/sports/other_...t_up_a_little/?comments=all&plckCurrentPage=1

>>Many complain about Big Show and Dennis and Callahan but they do very well in ratings so I wouldn't expect them to go away. It is good to have competition though (WEEI already made some changes about ad breaks and the sports flash, plus bringing aboard ESPN, due to 98.5's presence) and 98.5 is a solid FM signal. I work nights at a facility where AM listening is tough and 98.5 comes in handy for talk and score updates, plus Pats and B's...WEEI is rumored to be moving to an FM frequency like 93.7, 107.3, or 97.7

No second game as Rockies-Phils postponed due to the cold
LOL !!! With Minnesota twins heading outside ( New ballpark ) next year, baseball better get use to the cold. What happen if The Rockies and Twins make it to The World Series next year ( Welcome to the Freeze series ).

"Til of course the assumed move to FM for WEEI and then the full time ESPN on 850 that is. "

Will. Not. Happen.

There is nothing resembling a source for this, other than a "sources say" fleeting reference in the newspaper which gets picked up by regurgitators who publish "watches" that involve absolutely no original reporting.

I should have been more specific. WEEI will add an FM signal in the metro. 850 will not be abandoned to ESPN radio to create a third sports signal on a major station in the ADI. There maybe some dayparting of ESPN programs, beyond late night and weekends, but no 24-7 ESPN outlet

This is what they get for listening to Al Gore.

Don't be so sure. It may be a gradual process, but once WEEI moves to FM, ESPN will most likely become a bigger presence on 850. The Worldwide Leader will eventually want to clear their three big programs...Mike & Mike, Colin Cowherd and Scott Van Pelt. Working in conjunction with Entercom, I could see this happening. The marquee events ESPN Radio covers would either simulcast or be run exclusively on the FM, while niche sports like college football would remain on the AM. I could easily see 850 being the exclusive home of BC football and basketball, and go off the FM completely. Overflow games could also wind up on 850. ESPN will want more reach in this top ten market, especially with the espnboston.com website now up and running.

Supposedly ESPN doesn't sign radio deals unless the carrier agrees to run Mike & Mike, so this deal probably wouldn't have happened unless there was more coming down the line.

For what it's worth, WEEI has something running on 1510 this week (I want to say it's MLB playoffs) so they must be leasing time there to air some of the ESPN stuff. I caught part of the promo this AM but didn't hear the whole thing, but assuming they chose to run the early MLB games there instead of 680.

What's going on with Entercom and WBOQ? Buy or lease? Whichever, a reconfiguration of the FM stations will follow, with no formats lost and an AM/FM simulcast of the present WEEI. Take this one to the bank.

Hadn't heard anything yet about Ent. and BOQ; BOQ has carried the Sox the past few years and for a time the
Celtics as well. Listening to the Sox on WBOQ, the board op had to rush to "cover" the WEEI ID and also the part of
the bumper saying "Red Sox baseball on Sportsradio WEEI" though they did carry some spots for WEEI.com

But imagine...Mike 104.9 anyone? Or Mike 97.7/104.9 with WEEI onto 93.7?

Was mentioned in another thread that WWZN will pick up some baseball playoffs. Today's Herald says the NLCS
game tonite is on 1510

Very interesting. Raccoon's latter suggestion in terms of simulcasting seems very likely; 97.7 and 104.9 would have to go together. There's no way 104.9 can stand alone, the signal gets blown away both south and west of the city by 105.1 WWLI. And a 850/104.9 simulcast would just put WEEI on FM into areas it can already be heard well. Perhaps WAAF on 97.7/104.9, WMKK on 107.3, and WEEI on 93.7?
