The link did work for me and it did indeed claim that WGFP 940 was the station. Again we don't know how accurate.

Not the biggest ESPN Radio guy you will ever meet, but we seriously need an ESPN affiliate by 2010.
Boston is a big AM market, ESPN ink a deal with someone already! There's a parked website for crying out loud!

There is nothing resembling a source for this, other than a "sources say" fleeting reference in the newspaper which gets picked up by regurgitators who publish "watches" that involve absolutely no original reporting.

I should have been more specific. WEEI will add an FM signal in the metro. 850 will not be abandoned to ESPN radio to create a third sports signal on a major station in the ADI. There maybe some dayparting of ESPN programs, beyond late night and weekends, but no 24-7 ESPN outlet

Don't be so sure. It may be a gradual process, but once WEEI moves to FM, ESPN will most likely become a bigger presence on 850. The Worldwide Leader will eventually want to clear their three big programs...Mike & Mike, Colin Cowherd and Scott Van Pelt. Working in conjunction with Entercom, I could see this happening. The marquee events ESPN Radio covers would either simulcast or be run exclusively on the FM, while niche sports like college football would remain on the AM. I could easily see 850 being the exclusive home of BC football and basketball, and go off the FM completely. Overflow games could also wind up on 850. ESPN will want more reach in this top ten market, especially with the espnboston.com website now up and running.

Supposedly ESPN doesn't sign radio deals unless the carrier agrees to run Mike & Mike, so this deal probably wouldn't have happened unless there was more coming down the line.

I caught part of the promo this AM but didn't hear the whole thing, but assuming they chose to run the early MLB games there instead of 680.

What's going on with Entercom and WBOQ? Buy or lease? Whichever, a reconfiguration of the FM stations will follow, with no formats lost and an AM/FM simulcast of the present WEEI. Take this one to the bank.
