So it is official GMR is off the air and simulcasting Froggy until the big launch on Monday Morning

Boss Frog and Ann Phibeian
Skeeter
some other weird frog name
Lickin Leah

all come to the HOPPY valley on Monday

For the love of God, AJ...PLEASE tell me those are not the names their going with!

I assume Chris Prospero is "Boss Frog", as I hear he's moving to "The Frog" as the new P.D.? Priceless!

Ann Phibeian? Why don't they just get a newsman with the name of Toady McWartson? Shirley Ihoppalot with weather and "Web footed" Webb Green with sports? Dear God, this would be truly funny if it weren't so sad.

Good luck A.J.! I hope you find something soon!

Just curious, though...in the chance you would still have been there, what "frog name" do you think they would have tagged you with? :D

Ummm quick change I think it may have been Leapin and not Licken...I was trying not to drive the car off the road when I heard the promo

Yes Chris is Boss Frog

and I would have gone with Pond Scum...I think it has a nice ring to it...lol

The Afternoon-Drive guy's name is "Swampy"...and no, I'm not making that up.

Whatever works, I guess. But seriously? Swampy? Yeeesh!

sounds like the same old froggy at a different frequency. seriously, do these guys really think they can compete with themselves? anyone with a brain burnt out on this concept years ago. if you want a different kind of country, try wqbr - bear 99.9 - available in clinton and parts of centre county - top 40 country mixed with americana/roots...it's a really neat mix!

The extreme eastern side of Centre County can get the bear, MAJ kind shields it in State College...The Bear is a actually one of the few CC country stations in my eyes

Anyone know of a good local French restaurant? I think Joe FM will be having frog's legs for lunch. Let's see how "hoppy" froggy is after that.

Yeah I have to agree with Stranger...Chris (Boss Frog) is a vet in radio so he doesn't sound half bad...is he still tracking mid day at The BUS by any chance? Leah is simulcast from Meadville area I believe and that leaves the mid-day guy Skeeter and the afternoon guy Swampy who really to me sound like they should be P/T weekend staff, instead of full time air staff, it is just my observation.

Also they did a lot of promos on 98.7 and then over the weekend on 98.1 about the all new Froggy, but someone said in earlier post it is the same old Froggy, which it is...they didn't do anything new so now they have 2 Froggys in the Altoona market. Plus 98.1 doesn't have a bad reach into State College, so really what was the point? I don't think Joe is going to have an issue, they may see a hit the first week or so, but once people who left the Frog to go to Joe realize it is nothing new they will be back

Rumor is that the 101.3 signal in Altoona will be used for The Bus...gonna try to take down Q94 I guess

I'm waiting for the 2 frogs to implode and then see what they decide to do, this could get very interesting yet

just a correction - wqbr / the bear is independently owned NOT a Clear Channel station.
great website w/lots of roots video @ www.bear999.com

by the way, i think you're right about the new frog - sounds like a a paper clip and duct tape patch
job (re: cheap) way to fill air slots to me...

I've heard Pat Urban doing the 10a-2p shift since he is no longer at the Z. Wonder if he'll get the permanent mid-day shift or not.

W267AC (the 101.3 translator that rebroadcasts WGMR) could not be used to rebroadcast WBUS to Altoona because it would extend the 60dB contour of WBUS.

It could be used however as a rebroadcaster of a Forever AM station since the FCC now allows AM's to use FM translators.

Wireless that is just the rumor I don't know for sure...but hey it is Forever they seem to be able to get away with anything

Jimmie...wasn't the bear at one time owned by CC or am I out of my mind?

nope, always an independent since sign-on in 1993. first known as "the duck" (and wouldn't you have loved to have heard those jingles?), it went dark and then was re-christened "the bear" in 1994. still owned by maximum impact communications. it is their only radio property.

the confusion probably comes from maximum impact involvement by a guy named sab cupelli, who rampaged throughout the area in the late 90's, using bear funds to acquire a signal he called "the river" (now the oldies station in bellefonte) and also variety 97.7 (mike mckendree was gm there at the time). cupelli later sold both and pocketed the cash - variety went to clear channel for big bucks (that's where the confusion might have come from).

cupelli left the area before he could be charged with anything and re-located to florida, where he is apparently running another station (with a sinatra format, they call it "frank 104" - uh!) into the ground.

the bear somehow survived his reign of error and is still cranking out hit country/roots, existing under the radar of the big guys like clear channel, forever and backyard (owner of six stations in williamsport including heritage country station wilq.)

Well paint me two shades wrong...I was always under the assumption that the Bear was CC...It's funny that you mention Mike McKendree...did you know that he was selling for GMR and EEO both at the end of their days...well if that is what you want to call it.

i don't know mike well...hopefully he, like so many others discarded by forever, will be able to keep his head above the pond scum that has infiltrated the area....

Mike owns the EDGE in Cresson or Lorretto or somewhere up that way...they moved and I don't remember where to be honest. It's just funny to see his name pop up, I heard a lot of stories about VRT during his reign at the helm

and you can multiply those stories by a factor of ten before you get to the reality of that situation....

well if that is what you want to call it

AJ, This is Mike McKendree, are you trying to suggest in this public forum that what I was doing and trying to do with GMR and EEO was not sales? By the time I got back to GMR & EEO the damage had already been done. The market in State College was tanked and in both markets every advertiser that I talked with and I mean EVERY would ask "why did they ever change from Revolution?" I did the best I could with what I had. I covered remotes for you and came up with some pretty fun promotions that ALL were sponsored and all made money. I used my own remote equipment from The Edge and my own prizes from the Edge prize closet to do remotes on GMR. I busted my butt and drove all over creation, and you are going to make the comment (well if that is what you want to call it). I take what I do very seriously, and I appreciate what both Ted and Cary did for me. I have given every station I have ever been at my heart and soul, and believed that all of them were the best stations that were ever on the air. I don't appreciate your comments.

Mike, ummm calm down...my comment was a little misleading I guess..."if that's what you want to call it" was in conjunction with the end of days statement...

I don't mean to complain but I was never very impressed with the prizes from the prize closet at the Edge. Now I don't know if there were better prizes in the closet and Mike only brought the bottom of the barrel with him but I thought the prizes could have had a little more pizazz. For the most part, the remote equipment worked okay but it wasn't exactly "state-of-the-art". The remote quality over the air sometimes left a little bit to be desired but that could have been because of some kind of CB interference.

Does anyone think that some of these guys are just fill-ins until Froggy 101 finds better replacements?? From what I've heard, they just sound very inexperienced...
