TC electronics makes a nice compressor-the C-300. Designed for insert use on soundboards-different instrument settings, but also has a 'composite' setting which works well. I still prefer my 424 though.
Do you ever sell your old compression/processing stuff? I am looking for a unique box, like an audimax.

This should sound like an FM station, complete with AM noise. At points you can hear the compression working.
