Well Lazlo and his crew are splitting town.

Mike Kaplan joins us on 8.4 and takes over the controls of KNDD, and one of his first duties will be finding the next host for afternoons on The End. In the interim Harms will fill in.
So Mike's job is to find a new syndicated show, extend the robot for a few hours or find a new 18-year old from BCC? God knows the End doesn't bring in or develop any real local talent.

Obviously this is a critical time and if Entercom brass are intent on staying the course, then hopefully they are smart enough to realize that they cannot simply bring in another unknown and expect things to suddenly turn around. IMHO they will either flip formats or skew older and bring in some market vets.

does anyone really think that entercom brass has the brain power to be smart enough to make (any) good decisions? let alone making thee end a station worth listening to?what could they possibly do to save face?

I love reading this message board. ;D
From the comments it's obvious many of the "experts" that post here have never stepped foot inside a radio station.

Here's a couple of facts you should know...

1) Next to The Mountain, The End is David's favorite radio station.
2) They don't really care about ratings, as they feel PPM will show that The End has value.
3) Robin and Maynard will never work at Met Park again. That ship has sailed.

That is all.

Well since you both appear to be tight, say hello to Mr. Field next time you have coffee with him.

I don't know if I'd count on a huge spike because of PPM. The only places where alt has seen an increase is in Houston and LA and both of those stations already had solid numbers. The end doesn't.

Don't the door hit them on the way out.

Its been two years too long.
The door has been hitting them there longer than 2yrs.
It seems that that all PD's in the Seattle area have a one track mind and there off track.
All formats have been tried here and most have failed..the only survivors are the ones who stick to it,
kube kmps knhc ect ect. There are no quick bucks in radio now days unless you sell your freq. So my question to you radio greats, What will work? KNDD is in a do or die situation One format nobody has done except for KIXI, KRIZ and they are on AM(GET IT?)and making money. Dump the 18 to 49 yr old go beyond young man us baby boomers are still here and aint getting any younger and we aint dead yet.
FYI I'm classic r&b guy but I find myself listening to KZOK a lot. Wonder why hmm!

isn't it ironic how despite being(arguably)one of the most toxic things to happen to thee end, that laslo will get his cake and eat it too by being the only one from the carnage of the last two years, to get to say an official on air goodbye.all the other fallen had audiences that were endeared to them and were gone like dust without any goodbye, but i guess when you're boss and the jock(boss-jock?)that's the perks, huh? :-\

Of all the adjectives I've seen used here to describe Lazlo's tenure at The End, "toxic" so far has been the most appropriate.

Well I told myself I'd listen to this guys last show for the first hour or two. I only made it 10 minutes into his first talk break before I had to change the station. Will someone update me on how the rest of the show goes!

Thank you, whomever you are for bringing this silly thread down to earth.

Well, since I left Entercom's employ, David and I don't have coffee any more. So sad. :'(
\But if we did happen to run into each other at Starbucks while getting our 4 dollar Clover pressed coffee, I still would simply refer to him as David, as would most of the other people in that building. I don't think I ever heard any one call him, or even refer to him as "Mister Field".

Ok, let's start by all agreeing that david Field does NOT listen to The End on a daily basis, heck I don't even think Dave Richards spends much time listening to it.
That's not to say The End is a bad station (but it is getting better since the announcement of Lazlo leaving), it's just that I don't see Dave as a big End listener.
next, I am sure nobody was serious about R&M being back on the air and the afternoon drive hosts on The End.
Knowing all that Mike Kaplan MUST find himself a live, local afternoon drive show.
Not ALL the members of this ensemble need to be from Seattle but there should be some representation it'll help with the transition and also help the other members of the show to know the ins , outs, local jokes and references all in an effort to endear themselves to listeners.
I understand that the whole "Being an A$$h0le - to chicks also translates to being one to listeners" sometimes works when it comes to radio jocks who want to seem like rebels and not catering to the locals but it's just not going to work here.
Next you MUST have more music in the show if not then don't bill yourself as being "all about the music", there's plenty of room for personality breaks where talk, bits and phone interraction can happen you just need the right programming person to design the clock and show as such.
Next, know your audience! know who's listening during afternoon drive, know them insdie out and try to pull them in and keep them, give them a REASON to listen and make that reason the show itself.
This can be done, it sounds like a daunting task but it can be done and if Mr. Kaplan can pull it off he will be viewed as a savior.

Good post GenX.

R&M was definitely a joke because after the lawsuit, I don't think Entercom would ever let them back in building. But honestly it has nothing to do with their age. As long as the jock can relate to the demo they can be successful. Hell Adam Carolla is 45. What's Bill Reed doing these days? Anyone with market experience that can relate to the end listeners would be an enormous upgrade.

comical ain't it?these last few threads are describing all the qualities of the airstaff that got canned.time to play catch-up ;D

I heard he left simply because he missed the sunshine and culture of midwest. DAN whats wrong with being 45??? :)

Nothing is wrong with being 45. I was just making a reference to the joke about having Robin & Maynard doing PM drive on the end. Age isn't a factor if you can still relate to your target audience.

Robin sounded old at KXRX. By now, she probably sounds like Brenda Vaccaro or Kathleen Turner.

They relate to college-age listeners, don't they?
