Well, Venus Is Here

Re: This is bad

Sorry to inform you that they are indeed 100kw. The tower is in the
NE section of Dickson County. That's why the fringe signal weakness
is a problem in Antioch, etc. Consider it, at this point, to be a
bonus that you can't get a full signal. Another one bites the dust.
It may be near the town of Pegram, I don't know for sure. Scared
to git out in them woods that fur.
Edited by tibbs on 10/06/05 02:33 PM.

Their tower is in Clarksville.

There was speculation by some at my station that they could be stunting (being Venus on Tuesday night and the Party on Wednesday morning) but..unfortunately, Cromwell is not that smart!

I do love the 5-15 seconds of dead air between some songs or before sweepers...makes the station feel nice and tight!
Edited by belmont231 on 10/07/05 01:03 AM.

No, but no one expected it to sound SO bad. I think it may
be the worst radio station in Tennessee, maybe the US. Heck,
the world. Why not. The best thing I heard today was the
attempt by Lu Lu to go to sat. at 7 pm. Ha. Couldn't believe
my ears. Funniest thing on that station all day.

Re: This is bad

I was listening to them during the drive home yesterday and it sounds like they are on a cell phone and not talking directly into the mic all the time. Then they put a caller on and I couldn't hear them at all. Does no one at Cromwell realize this? Maybe they leave work and can't stand listening to it either!

At Cromwell, they probably think it sounds really good.
______________

Would that be a biased thing? Or do you think they really honestly don't hear how bad it is?

Either they just don't know or they just don't care, I guess.

That's the million dollar question. Why has this been allowed
to go on for over a decade? The Venus is an all time low, but
things have never even been above average or good. It starts at the
top. I still cannot believe they are allowing the Venus to
be so lame. It's a Top 50 market and 2005. BTW, is it me or
does 102.5 just have horrible audio? If this is as good as
HD radio does, they better can it now.

When you look at their coverage map, Nashville is within the "local" range, not much more than 30 miles from the city. However, their tower is a little less than 1000 feet above average terrain. Between there and Nashville are a lot of very tall hills (or short mountains;) They must really do a number on blocking the signal.

I recall several years back that their signal wasn't nearly so lousy. But the tower took a lightening strike and did some transmission line damage. When they finally came back, the signal was the fuzzbox it is today.

I've never figured out what their processing was supposed to be doing. It's been very thin and tinny, with a format like The Party that needed some bass to thump.

And for what it's worth, the Bob/Sherry morning show has phased out in mono since they began airing it.

I, too, remember when 102.5 had one of the best signals that a rimshot could put over Nashville. I think the current signal problems are due to:

A. Cromwell's hasty effort to give the station an IBOC DAB signal and

B. neglectful treatment of basic transmitting equipment, a behavior probably stemming from Cromwell's predictable cheapness.
______________
